With motherboard manuals being available now, I just found this courtesy of ASRock.
The SR1 and SR2 cooler mounts directly to the back plate, with only the SR3 sitting on the cooler brackets. So why use brackets at all?
Also note the custom fan LED header and the fact that the SR3 can also be connected to USB and used with some kind of "settings software".
