An Idea for a OP to close their own thread

I don't normally make suggestions, but I saw something on another site that might be useful

A close thread option for the OP. Just like edit Thread feature just the ability to lock the thread. Might save the mods some work, or it could just send a message to staff that the OP wants
the thread closed. Or do you think too many should change there mind and be bugging you to open it back up? IDK maybe I'm bored

I think you can report yourself and ask for the thread to be closed? Closing threads doesn't normally seem necessary to me anyways, unless something goes awry...

We used to allow it, people abused it.
If you wish to have a thread closed, report it, and we will make the appropriate move.

On a whole, we do not tend to close unless in the BST. It allows others to reuse them rather than more of the same threads.

The forum I used previously only allowed shop sub-forum (for sale, want to buy, exchange) OPs tp close their thread. Some people used to reopen those threads well after asking if the products were still available or not. I don't otherwise see any need for normal members to get thread closure privileges.

The only reason I bring it up is because OP will post "Close thread please" and I think its a dumb reason to bump the thread. Or it sold close thread. But I guess you just use a PM

And, personally, I think closing threads is dumb... unless something went awry during the course of the thread that warrants closure, of course.

All you have to do is report your thread and request it closed.

warnings pop up on old threads asking if people are sure they want to dig the thread out of its grave, they tick yes anyway
Lots of things have been tried, this seems to be the method with the least drawbacks

But many don't so they bump the thread. Mostly in the Buy and sell. So I see a item for sale, contemplate buying, only to get to the end of the thread. Sold, please close. Which is why I started this thread, maybe a better way but maybe not

Absolutely love this feature. I built a server 3 years ago and thought about updating the build log for its progress. I think appropriate for a bump a three year old thread. Haven't done this yet

Nah, some OPs would close the thread when they THINK they got solution to their problem but actual solution is something completely different.
