If all of these new developments don't end consoles, not sure what will. Anyone can jump in PC gaming now and not pay very much (I'm assuming). Probably many small form PCs as well.

You forget about gpu prices, a gtx 1050 ti is still between 150 and 200 usd! I saw one at frys yesterday for 199.99. Also memory is expensive asf.

Consoles aren't going away, they are the new HTPC for the not so tech savvy. They also sell very close to or just above the BOM, a standalone PC will not compete in price considering the extra stuff (like UHD BR drive) that's on the latest gen of consoles.

Like I said, no need to license AMD IP, buy cheap because... lets be honest, they are! Then hire the brains as required.

Ruthless bastards Intel, but AMD fans seemed happy enough yesterday.

Not quite the same. If you hire someone to do it, it'll take few years to get to a certain point. If you buy IP, you can be making stuff in matter of few months.

Hardware is one thing, software is the key of driving hardware to potential especially for graphics. From what I see of several chip companies try to make GPU, for example SiS with Xabre GPU, the hardware seems capable but the drivers aren't.

Same goes with current Intel IGP. The GPU is good enough for some light gaming but I have trouble getting some game running, usually resorting to changing to older or modded driver to get some games running.

Question, if the timeline aligns properly and we get AMD+Nvidia vs Intel+RTG, can Nvidia "be brought" by AMD and start developing x86 processors?
Ryzen 2 with Volta IGP...

AMD has enough IP that they don't need NVIDIA on board. And for years, graphics division was saving the processor division. Now processors division is doing great, if they get graphics up to speed, AMD could fly. And we all want that. AMD being serious competition again against Intel and NVIDIA. Which is why I wish Intel became a 3rd graphics card maker and sell them as stand alone too. They have excellent fabs, they have the resources and it's a huge market. I'm just surprised they haven't gone with it years ago. When Larrabee was announced was a good time already. Now is kinda late actually.
