Another fake one

So my dad bought this what seemingly poses itself as an Nvidia GT 1030 off of ebay, took like a month or so to arrive from china? but once it did get here you know, same-old story. Box was shady, text was shady, stickers on the fans were crooked, all that fun stuff. I did try to work on it however, I did manage to install a driver on there but as you can imagine, it doesn't work properly. Random crashes, majority of my choice games won't run, the blue screen of death gracing me with its presence more so than I'd like to admit. I really want to fix this card and I know its not impossible. Getting a refund isn't really possible at this point in time because the card's been here for a while. Buying a new card is unlikely too, due to financial reasons. I'm clueless to be honest. I don't how to flash the bios or any of that, but I am willing to learn. I would appreciate it if you guys can help me.

You may need to take the cooler off so the GPU die can be seen, I say that because GPU-Z reports the fake card as GF108 but "if" the ROP/TMU/Shader count shown in GPU-Z is real (which I doubt because of the number of shaders) then the spec matches nothing GF108 ………………….

First of all your time to claim a refund starts FROM WHEN YOU GET IT and i believe you get a reasonable Time frame to make a Claim ( its between 90 to 180 days i think and will stand to be corrected).

It really seems like every thread started here about these fake cards, people want to flash these things and use them... WTH is wrong with people? Return that thing, report the seller, and get a refund.

Let's use our heads, people. ;)
Agreed, only once you've got the refund and the seller doesn't ask for the card back then work on it, but only after they confirmed you can keep the junk.

Even if money is a concern never buy a old generation card from Ebay based in China. I would definitely get a refund and look for a card on let go or somewhere else. With all of the new cards from AMD and Nvidia there should be plenty of options available.

I still don't understand why people buy these overly cheap and clearly fake cards, not being funny, the adverts are easy to spot a mile away.

Just look at the below

thank you, i'll try to do take of the cooler with someone who has experience in handling hardware. I don't want risk breaking it before attempting to make things right.

You realise it probably isn't even worth it, it's probably an old 600 series GPU... Wouldn't be worth wasting my time on.

That's a GeForce GT 530 card you have there. They probably pulled it out of an old Dell or HP and slapped it in a box since the GT 530 was never a retail product and only sold to OEM's.

You may have better success with older Nvidia drivers that are designed to work with Fermi GPU's.

Yeah like in here, i've told some people don't buy that card coz it's fake but some can't resist especially when it has good looking cooler and cheap
