why is it that there are so many spyware "removers" but you dont hear about spyware "blockers" that keep spyware from getting on your system in the first place?

you dont get an anti-virus to only remove virus after they are infecting your computer, you get it to keep virus from ever getting on them in the first place. IMO treatment of computer spyware should be no different.

can anyone out there say they know of any program that actually keeps spyware from getting on your computer? and i'm not talking about removing it after it is already there, i'm talking blocking it from your computer like a firewall.
