Has something happened to Norton recently? Because last time I tried it, in 2011 I think, it was both light and pretty decent. It didn't use more resources than MSE.

Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes is all you will ever need. But out of those too. Kaspersky for sure. Norton is a fail these days.

Kaspersky's AV is pretty good. The Internet Security Suite is far too annoying though. I hate the firewall on that thing.

Well I haven't used it for ages, but I remember that it was impossible to uninstall back in the day.

kaspersky only annoys people because they set it to 'ask me EVERYTHING' mode, when it literally means everything. leave it on the default settings and its just like every other AV + firewall combo out there.

nortons annoys people because it slows peoples systems more than the malware, and its even more annnoying.

I am assuming that the Norton one is actually 2011 not 2001? I would say Kaspersky only because i have been using it for years and have found it reasonably reliable. Cant really comment on Norton as i have never used it. Dl Malwarebytes wich will work happily alongside wich one you choose.

This was true until years ago. I tried it last year and it used pretty much exactly as much resources as MSE and didn't slow anything down. I quite liked it actually.

I've been quite happy with Norton Internet Security 2012. It has saved my butt a few times, especially on those fake antiviruses. No slow downs & everything runs smoothly during scans too.

Norton has gotten a lot better however because of its previous track record I'm still not a fan. I personally like the MSE and MBAM combo overall. Free for the AV and $25 for MBAM (if you want the pro version, which $25 one time isn't bad and I'm finally going to buy it after getting years of use out of it on countless computers).

Best thing to do is try each for their respective trial period. No two systems are alike and one may work better than another for your setup. I have used both extensively along with about a dozen others and chose the one I liked and worked for my setup. Your keys, if never registered, will work for the latest version of either. Best advice anyone can give is try them yourself.

Last month Norton had a higher detection rate than Kapersky. Norton 360 is honestly a very good anti-virus today. This isnt 2001 anymore people. Get over it.

You can't go wrong with Norton or Kapersky honestly. However even Auslogics makes a decent antivirus today. HOWEVER none of them CLEAN UP a computer better then Malwarebytes. It baffles even professional testers how well Malwarebytes cleans up infections. The problem with Malwarebytes is it doesnt scan archives and its crap at picking up root infections so don't use it as a soul scanner. Just a passive scanner.

Only issue I have with is the amount of people who appear to be suckered in to auto renewal.
Norton was a resource hog in the past but I don't know about now.
Never had a chance to use Kaspersky but it appears to be a useful AV.

I personally use MSE.
I don;t thin I go to enough sites to get malware.
Used to us AVG but that is system heavy now and found it gave me far too many false positives.

detection rate doesnt mean as much as people think it does.

who gives a crap if an AV can detect the virus, if it cant clean it off fully and leave you with a working OS afterwards?
