Our computers with 6970 and 6950 crossfire setups are starting to feel a bit aged for 1600p and beyond.

We're at that point where most programs run at 60fps but would like to add a slight bit more robustness and assurance that minimum frames are saved where possible and also the inclusion of a smoother experience overall.

It doesn't feel like forking over money for GTX 680 or 7970 crossfire is worth it though maybe a 7850 crossfire would be slightly faster and feel a bit more perky?

With the lack of 7850 crossfire reviews it's hard to get specific.
Do we have any users who can comment?

P.S. Single card solution would be great, though what single card topples 6970 crossfire?

6970x2 > 7850x2. So you'd be downgrading. Only thing I would reccommend is a 680sli or 690. Sorry! You probably didnt want to hear that.

    I agree partially.

Logically speaking & thinking; Coming from your current cards, stick with them. Enthusiast mind; Go single 680 or 7970 then eventually pickup a 2nd.

If you haven't found out yet here's the catch. This whole new GPU generation sucks. You get almost the same performance as the last generation at around the same price. Of course there's better performance available but you'll have to fork more money (GTX680/HD7970) and those cards will not be better than your crossfire setup. With what you have right now I'd skip this generation.
