Apparently the block is not as bad as it seems to be.
Yeah it works fine using ultra cheap aluminum radiator, sketchy looking ali express pump, and some vinyl tubing from the hardware store. Held together with random fittings and barbs I had laying around. It's stained white from the titanium oxide experiment but that's mostly flushed out now. Apparently I should have used maybe 1/100th of the tiny pinch I used the 1st time

It's been folding protein for months on end overclocked to 1200MHz core (stock 860). It stays a handful of degrees above water temp, which stays a couple degrees above ambient.

alright.. your there.. now remember some things need to be HOT.. some things need to be WARM... and some things need to be as cold as possible to insure physics accuracy... NITRO OUT.. ITS FOR FUN

make that perfect pc you always wanted to play that does so perfectly.. and it will last forever ...

When/if the radiator comes tomorrow, i will be switching to this case-
Untitled.jpg

I have a 240 rad that will fit in along with the 280, but the question is, use the corsair LL fans or NF-A14 PWM chromax black swap on it?

I'm guessing loop will be pump-280-cpu-240-gpu-res, but iirc it does not really matter does it?

Had to order a new tank for the D5. So used a cheapo pump I had spare to set up the CPU loop alone till I get new tank. Temps are 10c+ lower idle than on the stock cooler, no surprise. I'll add the GPU in the loop when I get the new Res. Flow on the cheap pump is surprisingly good. If you can't tell, board is flat in the case with radiator on the right side. Gonna put 2*120 on left to blow onto the bga sinks on the GPU once it's got the block on it too.

HEY, put those heatsinks... on your motherboard micro controllers, and 8pin power controllers. also put some foil on those VRM near the RAM everyone always forgets.

put thermal pads and heatsinks cut the pads to size you can put an oversized heatsink. on them just put something on them and you can overclock ALL DAY LONG.

I use 3M .5 mm aluminum foil ducting tape. good spread then you put a heatsink on that. but 3M copper foil ducting tape is best

it's copper

nah I love those raspberry pie kits.. been putting them on q77 and x99 chipsets and they love it.

VRM and power controller fan.. every liquid cooler user always forgets the poor VRM

don't feel bad. new stuff is powerful but.. man EVERY ONE NEEDED thermal paste to be reapplied nvidia/amd didnt matter. and thermal pads to be positioned properly

this is my world record holding mining and gaming RX 6800 XFX QUIK before I started the mods..

before mods. 192fps MAX settings BFV

after mods. 322fps MAX settings BFV

before mods. 64.58Mh 115watt 1500mhz 2150

after mods. 132Mh spikes 113watt 1498mhz 2140fasttiming.

SAD

XFXRX6800QiCKthemalpaste.jpg

But I just came to a conclusion I need to pull the RX6800 and do a couple more mods.. I focused on chip power and com noise reduction,, left the ram power system out.. 2 little square boxes near the front of the card im going to put some thermal pads and help transfer to the pcb frame..

Remember to put some airflow for the heatsinks. I have an universal EK VGA block and when I had it on my old Asus R9 290 DCUII, it got so hot on its VRM that some airflow was a must.

I might have that specific ek block...

Really. I looked but hard to find now.

Second 240 air coming in, onto GPU, will that be enough?

Monitor the temps, or if there's no sensors, just try with hand. If it's burning hot under load, put an additional fan to blow some air for it.

I noticed when I took it out, the heat pipes on the stock cooler were pretty warm, almost hot. I will check the temps for sure.

Idle temps are good

According to GPU-z logging, highest temp playing dying light was 37c, pretty good

I mean the VRM; does the heatsink get hot?

I mean the VRM; does the heatsink get hot?

i never checked, i will do though, has a big sink on it with air blowing from rad, so hopefully be ok. gimme 5

EDIT- just checked it and it's definitely passable, it obvs hot but not burning hot, i guess the air coming through the rad is enough to keep it down.

Think I should keep front fans going In? Can't fit a fan on rear. So air is in left through 240 then out right and through 280 with front fans going in. Or I have the original front 180/200mm front fan

I suppose that it's fine if it's not burning hot when gaming :)
