Do note if the organization you give it to is a church or registered non-profit, you can write off the donation on your taxes claiming the fair market value of the computer. ;)

Edit comment: Changed right to write.

True but depending on your tax situation you may not see a single difference when it comes time to filing.

To be honest I am looking forward to reviews on this chip. The 1920 to be exact but I wouldn't move over to AMD unless they release something very special. I used AMD chips for years until Intel released the first Core 2 Duo and I have been with Intel since.

I do want to replace my cpu though as I need more performance for 4k gaming but I do not think it is time quite yet.

TR is lil bit much for my needs to be honest. I could use instead something like an 8c/16t cpu with 40+ lanes. That's the only reason I haven't tried Ryzen out yet due to the lack of lanes.

It will be an amazing HEDT setup but it is simply far beyond my needs. The 1700 / NVMe drive combo is still blowing my mind and compliments everything I do perfectly. I cannot see upgrading or spending more at this time. But who knows... once I get to work with a TR system... maybe I will change my mind.

after seeing the packaging .... yep i would like to upgrade to it ...

but my budget fits more for a X370 and a R5 1600 .... (after reselling my Z170 and 6600K near their launch price due to the second hand market buyer ... who are all crazy for Intel most of the time .... i even saw a "2 month used" 7700K going for 10% higher than the retail price because the seller told it was a golden OC chips and showed some questionable 5ghz clock with a unbelievably low core voltage screenshot, not the 5ghz was unbelievable ofc ;) )

mmmhhhhhh i guess i can stretch my budget and ask for some "monthly payment" arranged on 4 month ...
will know once i see availability and pricing of the Threadripper and X399 mobo (preferably a Aorus X399 Gaming 7 that one is .... gorgeous)

I just don't need all of those cores for my home PC. It is a heck of a neat chip though.

awwww .... if it was me, i i had the money instead of a X99 + 6950X combo i would have taken a R7 1700 to 1800X + X370, rather 1700... the 1700X 1800X are redundant and price is not friendly .... (future proofing ... you know ... and price to perf ratio)

well both platform are probably up to your needs

oh god .... i just checked .... a 1700+X370 mobo alone just cost 1/3 of a 6950X :twitch: (alone where i live it's 1788chf/1875.59$ ) actually a 6950X cost literally the price of my whole rig  (i will never understand these pricing , well before Ryzen maybe but now ... not that much) the 16core TR will be around 1000$ launch hum that would translate into 1200-1300 in my own currency with the taxes even if it goes for 1300 ... the wait will be worth :ohwell: (or i could buy 2 1700 bundle for the same price also ... )

I just don't need all of those cores for my home PC. It is a heck of a neat chip though.
neither do i, heck! Even a R7 1700 would be too much for me .... but if i can afford it by any mean ... "why not"

Yeah for the average user and heavy gamer getting TR would only deliver a spectacular view in Task Manager, I could look at 12 cores doing nothing all day long. Definitely worth

well logical upgrade is R5 1600 for me since the 8600K will be 6core, and will likely push devs to use more than 4 cores (at last i hope), and i intended to go SMT or HT later to upgrade my 6600K

and also because i don't know if i will not expend my computer use beyond "just" gaming

I'm very surprised that you'd be interested in ANY CPUs that have a 2 GHz default clock, no matter how many cores it has.

Like, why is ANYONE here interested in this CPU, a real server CPU? I understand that some guys here have servers, and those guys might be interested, but I have to say, Threadripper is NOT for 99.9% of people. Yep, it's expensive... what server CPU isn't? WHY OH WHY ARE NORMAL BOARD OEMs MAKING "enthusiast" BOARDS FOR THIS PLATFORM, WITH 2 GHZ Zen cores that can only turbo up to 3.0 GHz, and draw 180W? Like really now, can someone explain this to me? What am I missing here, except the hype?

Like, all models and clockspeed and power draw are listed on AMD's site... none of this is hidden, so, WTF?

Because real men use real cores, I guess :)

But yes, this whole workstation going mainstream hype, I really don't get it either. Blame the internet for blowing everything people say out of proportion, I think its a self fulfilling prophecy that way, some enthusiasts run it, so why shouldn't you?

Nah, I woke up too early. :p Epyc is the fail platform with 2 GHz CPUs, not TR. maybe they share the socket, but...

It's the fail platform unless you're like @xkm1948 who benefits from more cores and memory when doing bioinformatics or when you're writing software that's intended to run on a server with a lot of requests going through it.

TR does fall in the same category of 14 year old kids getting HEDT with lower clocking potential for gaming. Weird stuff, especially with 6-8 cores now going truly mainstream at last.

Oh for sure, but he's definitely a minority. TR looks like two 1800X/1600X, each with about 90 W power consumption, on a single pcb to me.

I read way to much info last night and somehow when I slept it got mixed up for a moment.

For real men anything under 2,5 GHz and lower max Turbo than 3,2 GHz regardless of number of cores or threads per core isn't going to cut it. :D

Anyways, AMD will release interesting multi core CPU's (6+ cores) in the near future and Intel will likely follow. That will make 4C/8T i7's obsolete much faster than I expected. That's a bad thing for me and people who have these CPU's.

So far I'm not planing to upgrade until the next year when I might add extra 16 GB of RAM. My whole system is scheduled for replace somewhere between the 2021-2022. This premise might change immediately if any of my co-workers, colleagues or neighbours buy more powerful PC than I have. In such case "Oh no you didn't !!!" temperament might kick-in and I might get an 16-core Threadripper, 64 GB RAM. I'm dead serious.

I know how the"itch" works and you would probably end up buying something even if there is not enough justification for it :)

All I can think about is the crunching potential these have. My electric bill is high enough from the 4 Xeons and 2 i7's crunching. Also, the initial investment is up there.

awwww .... if it was me, i i had the money instead of a X99 + 6950X combo i would have taken a R7 1700 to 1800X + X370, rather 1700... the 1700X 1800X are redundant and price is not friendly .... (future proofing ... you know ... and price to perf ratio)

well both platform are probably up to your needs

oh god .... i just checked .... a 1700+X370 mobo alone just cost 1/3 of a 6950X :twitch: (alone where i live it's 1788chf/1875.59$ ) actually a 6950X cost literally the price of my whole rig  (i will never understand these pricing , well before Ryzen maybe but now ... not that much) the 16core TR will be around 1000$ launch hum that would translate into 1200-1300 in my own currency with the taxes even if it goes for 1300 ... the wait will be worth :ohwell: (or i could buy 2 1700 bundle for the same price also ... )

neither do i, heck! Even a R7 1700 would be too much for me .... but if i can afford it by any mean ... "why not"

I got a heck of a deal for the 6950X. So no complains over here. Net cost of getting the 6950X for me is about the same as a Ryzen 1800X. 10 core over 8 core any day for that price

Wouldn't you consolidate those excess machines if going for higher density? Though that is w/o knowing your specific setup...
