I am hoping socket 2011 releases sometime this year by at least q2 2011 because there are rumors saying Intel is going to release it from q2 to q4 of this year to q2 of next year. I cant wait that long lol. I am hoping to at least se some more six core models by q2 of 2011 since Intel road map has no information about future CPUS this year. Quad core are getting old for me

This, but for 1156 as well. Intel needs to stop making a socket per year, 775 lasted 4 years before it died. Why can't they go back to that?

775 didn't really work the way people are making it sound. Often you still needed to buy a new chipset even if the socket was physically the same.

True, but they still kept the same socket. For example, they could use 1366 for a couple more years because it will take quite a while before the socket itself needs to be replaced. They can make new chipsets and everything.

Back to my question lol. Has anybody heard of another six core or 8 core cpu. I had one answer that was not to detailed then this who thread went into a LGA 775 sockets argument and rant lol.

afaik the i7 990x is coming out in feb this year but it's not a certainty,

i was kindof hoping it would so they might put down the price of the 980x which seems to have skyrocketed in price :wtf:
anyone know why?

here's what it did cost some time ago (not sure on the timeframe though)
so it was about £750 then it went down to £728 and now it's gone upto £791 :wtf:
