I was wondering if anybody had a good suggestion for a socket754 cooler. I currently run the stock cooler and it runs at 39c idle, about 49-53c at full load(tested while encoding a dvd). While this isnt really hot, i would still like it to run cool as possible.

Any suggestions would be appreciated:D

If you have the headspace needed for it in your case, give this one a try:
Thermaltake Sonic Tower

Why, you will ask. Because of two reasons:

1) You can use it later on too, on your next system which will probably be Socket 939.

2) It is completely silent if you want it too (at least one case fan of a two-fan PSU should be present though) or you install a 120mm-fan@5V on it and have near-silent cooling. Nice option.

By the way, your temperatures are not that evil. But let me ask you: Given that you have a socket 754 Newcastle @2,41GHz means either you did the insane thing and overclocked it to run 10 MHz faster (w00t! ) or did not overclock at all yet and your mainboard cheats at the system bus speed ;) If you do not overclock at all though, you should get better temps with the fan described above. Even with mine you should do the trick (Thermaltake Venus 12, which is much smaller than the Sonic Tower but 100% copper), I overclock and have your temps but at 1,6V VCore!
The Venus is socket 754 only, though, so I suggest you rather invest in something that will last you longer yet.

If you do not overclock at all, you could also try lowering your VCore a bit, Newcastles aren't the greatest undervolters around but some are humble enough to eat less and still run the same speeds :)

Im using an inexpensive Thermaltake Silent Boost, its a bit better then the retail hsf & much quieter.

If you have a good case for cooling you can get by with an inexpensive hsf or even the retail.

The best case, hands down, I've EVER USED is the Silverstone TJ06. The motherboard gets inverted upside down so the cpu socket area is right in the middle of two nearly silent 120 mm fans. Interior looks like this:

You could also get a Zalman? They're also compatible with most sockets and personally I don't like Thermaltake although I wouldn't dish their products. The Zalman CNPS7000Cu or CNPS7700Cu or Cu/Al are both very good choices and both are silent.

BTW nice case Silverstone! Now I wonder where you got your nick from??

Yeah, now that's what hardcore overclocking is all about! No wonder his temps are so high...

When I used Lian Li cases I bought Thermalright or Swiftech hsf's.....they DO cool the best for air cooling, thermaltake is not known for high quality product

but

Silverstone cases are seriously quiet & the one I am using ATM cools the cpu better then any Thermalright or Swiftech hsf could.....AND MUCH QUIETER!
:pimp:

thanks alot for the info guys....i appreciate it:toast:

By the way, I dont not overclock at all. Even though the stock rating for my processor is 2.40ghz, mine runs at 2.41ghz( i seriously doubt that it makes much of a difference). My case has seven case fans running, 2 in front pulling in air, one on the side pulling in air towards my video card, and 2 pushing air out the back, all 80mm in size. So my case does get good airflow, but i will look into those other coolers and the case that was posted.
Thanks again;)

Good luck on your hsf purchase....If you seriously wanna consider the Silverstone case its also great for an organized case free of clutter. There are huge areas to tuck your wiring behind so virtually little to no wires are inside the case (you can see) they are behind the back of your mobo.

Heres one of many reviews:

Most cases have crummy stamped grills that obstruct airflow but these fan grills have huge holes & very little metal between the holes. The fans included are only 21 dBa & are pretty damn quiet.
