Would have to think .... It's the same reason that MS has *missed* number in its OS's, programs office suites etc....

What came after MS Word 2.0 ? ... Word 6.0 ... What came after Word 12 (2007) ?.... Word 14 (aka Word 2010)..

If ya were to release CPU_a ... then sum1 would do CPU_b ... so they can imply that somehow they are more advanced. Can protect ya self from all that by staring with a z

I say C P Use ( Use is like loose/goose/moose), for CPUs(plural), and C P U Zee for CPUz/GPUz.

Here is my opinion. Probably because Z is the final letter of english alphabet (among some others). Maybe it has to do something with the first official version - version A, B, C,.... final version / Z opposed to v0.50, v0.85,... first official release v1.0.0. which was possibly registered by someone else or maybe because the author(s) wanted to express that it will detect & identify all current GPU's.
In Croatian, Slovenian, Czech, Slovakian alphabet the last letter is Ž, right after Z. GPU-Ž™ - imagine that.
