Anyone Playing Grid Autosport?

How's the game going now that you guys have some more time played? I've played forza1-4, toca 3, pcars,dirt 2-3 grid 1-2(2 was yawn), f1 2010,2012. And more.
I was thinking about getting it when they had it $45 with dirt showdown, but codiees has let me down lately.

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT buy DiRT Showdown. The worst game I have bought, evar!

I should have listened to my brain when I thought it seemed sus that it was down to $36 from $79 at EB Games (Gamestop) only 2 days after release. But no I went and bought because I thought it was a good deal.

Honestly, try DiRT 1 if you can find it. That and DiRT 2 and GRID 1 are their best games by far.

One thing I didn't touch on in this game is the horrible driving views. Close behind is too low, driver's perspective is too blurry with an unrealistically small windshield area to look through, and the dash view isn't any better. About the only saving grace for me is bonnet view is easier to drive than before, which makes no sense to me because IMO the handling sucks. It's mostly just too sluggish though with LOTS of rev kills and understeer. Almost anything will kill your momentum.

So I race in bonnet view a lot, but getting tired of it. Autosport is more yawn than GRID 2 by far IMO. Unless the tracks and cars get WAY better from here on out. It seems I have to be at least halfway through the game though and so far there's not a big feeling of progression with either.

Last thing I'll leave you with is Autosport is not really more sim-like than the previous GRIDs, except for AI that is harder to keep up with. The car tuning is abysmal as well. It looks as if you can do the same control hacks to get more car tuning via file edits like with GRID 2, but the cars start out feeling opposite of GRID 2, where they were a bit twitchy. Here they mostly have understeer.

Yeh DiRT 1 is beast. I still play it occasionally. Looks great too and also I found it gives you a sense of actually driving the car as there is a sense of 'heaviness' to the car if that makes sense which makes the driving feel more realistic. That and also going over jumps incorrectly can cause damage. The sound is very good too where you can hear gravel hit the car and increase in noise if you drift. Best of yet it had the best selection of cars and trucks and events imo. There was rallycross which is ok but no silly gymkhana rubbish (IMO that doesn't belong in a rally game). And you can actually feel the different if you change the car setup. I wish there were still time allotments for repair time in Codie's new games though, it really emphasises how important getting the car back relatively unscathed is.

I just tried playing with the settings some more after verifying via a Codies forum thread that others were getting freezes. It was suggested by them to set graphics to "Automatic". I set it to Automatic and all it did was use a High preset. I then ran the bench and got FAR worse results than on max settings. It hitched severely even in the bench at the start and end of it. I've never seen it do that before. I was getting only 15 FPS Min. On max settings I Ave 70 FPS and get 56 Min.

So I tried the Ultra preset and benched that. I had Ave 82 and Min 62 with no hitching in the bench or in game. I just played a fairly long session and was getting no pauses, freezes, hitching. Then the last race of the season I was on I again got severe hitching in some tricky turns. That kinda makes it look a memory leak issue, but the hitching right off the bat with Auto settings much lower than I use indicates it's worse than just that.

i think youre just unlucky. i am not facing any issues as of yet. and yes the open wheel is the easiest.

i love dirt 2s layout and animation stuff but i think dirt3s mechanics are better.
even old Tiff Needel from 5th gear said it had the most realistic mechanics of all the racing games.

i think grid autpsport is worth the buy.

Oh HELL yes! You had to know how to setup the suspension on some tracks and even then you had to know how to pace the jumps to make the car last. I remember one rally track in Australia that was hard, dry dirt with lots of washboard bumps and the road was lined with trees so the sunlight would flicker making it hard to see them sometimes. Then those dune buggy tracks of the Lucas Oil events could be brutal.

Thanks for the info, I think I will pass on autosport I prefer more Sim. Ill just bike off for pcars. I have dirt 1 just never installed it. As it came with my dirt 2.

Thought maybe it was my clocks or something so I down clocked my gpu oc ( which I have never had to do, Ever) by 10. Played for another 1/2 hr and changed over the laundry and bam another lockup. You may just be right about the leak.

As a whole. I find it to be an alright game. Every dynamic of the game is lacking but not horribly. Most of the races I have played from pole are way harder to win than starting in 16th which with one good corner you can pass half the pack and leave them to battle Ravenwest. The game is cartoonish. They have great settings implemented but they aren't implemented well. Grid 2 had way better vehicle choices and tuning options. The models look okay as I have the texture pack. Can't imagine what they look like without it,lol. ( hint, hint.)
Do I like it? Yeah. Would I reccomend a friend pick it up? Nope.( Although maybe having a friend as a team mate would usher in some real results for that "feature".
I will most certainly post any info I feel rellavent to increasing any ones opinion of the game in the future because after all I am only 6 hrs total game play

Updating to my latest driver (14.6rc) is supposed to increase dual gpu performance or adds a profile for grid auto I think. I have heard horror stories about the latest release but it is funny you should mention that I am going to try it later tonight.

If you thought 2 was Yawn. You will prob hate Auto. Especially since you seem to enjoy racing games.

After playing for a few more days autosport has grown on me a bit more I must admit. I am level 8 season 7 now and have most of the touring entries. (I am on the modified trucks now.) It does get a little more fun down the "road".
Out of curiosity, which difficulty settings is everyone using?

YUP I highly recommend it. I take my Citroen DS3 THP to the race track a couple of times a month and it has similar handling characteristics and power to the Abarth 500 SS. Driving the Abarth 500 in Assetto Corsa is nearly perfect. You even get lift-off oversteer like in real life. I even managed to replicate my 110km/h spin caused from lift-off oversteer (silly me didn't correct it properly) :O It is a proper simulator imo. I wouldn't play it for 'fun' I guess but I can certainly get my fix of track driving in between track days. I get fully immersed in the game and it is one of the few games I enjoy using flappy paddles with (if the car doesn't have a H-pattern manual gearbox). The only thing I've noticed is that you can't wreck the gearbox if you have poor inputs like you can in Live for Speed. Nothing beats pulling dem Gs in real life though.
