Hi all,

I've recently acquired an Aorus 1080ti the normal one not the extreme , I was really surprised to see I can't really get any decent OC out of the GPU so I've flashed the bios to get the powerlimit out of the way but this is still not going far...only around 1950 or 60mhz. Do I have a bad sample or is my PSU not up to the task? I incline to think that the PSU is not the problem as it is an EVGA G2 650w but maybe my PC needs more power in the current state

Has anyone experienced something similar?

Please assist guys :)

Thank you in advance

I've always heard that the 1080TI is not a good overclocker.

Not sure where you've heard that but 1080ti is quite a decent OC chip

Idk , i'm not sure , i don't own a 1080TI , but that is what i heard.

But i see no need to OC it , it has enough horsepower under the hood.

didn't your card boosts itself above 1950mhz core according to gaming title? Why do you need a manual overclocking, when card manages itself the boost clock she likes?

Most 1080ti's can sustain 2Ghz under good cooling. But if not cooled well, the chip starts down clocking at about 50 degrees (13hz). As the temps climb, OC perf drops. Before I put mine under water, standard running clock, due to temp throttling was mid 1800's.

1950 isnt terrible... my card sits at around 1980 in silent mode (80C) and it's plenty fast.

from there you might have maybe another 5% max of headroom which is really not a big deal.

Most Tis will sit right around the 2Ghz mark, and you wouldnt be able to tell the difference between 1950 and 2000 to save your life.

with the default bios and no tweaks the GPU boost was around 1870 with this beefy cooler which keeps it under 65C at 100% load with a fan curve with a peak of 70%. a 1080ti owner knows that 1870 is not good. after I've flashed the bios with one from an XOC which does not have a power limit my gpu was around 1950 at 1.131mv which is kind of high that is why I wonder if I have a bad sample

1950-1960 is not that bad for 1080 Ti. Here is my stat on EVGA FTW3.

Stock heatsink.
Max boost on lower temp = 1974Mhz.
Max boost on 70-80C = 1911Mhz.
Max overclock using slider offset on stock voltage = +25Mhz = 1999Mhz on lower temp / 1936Mhz on higher temp.
Not possible to increase voltage in hope for higher overclock since the card will crash probably due to already high temp.

Watercooling.
Max overclock using slider offset with stock BIOS and max voltage (1.093V) = 2088Mhz.
Max overclock using curve method with stock BIOS and max voltage (1.093V) = 2126-2139Mhz.
Max overclock using curve method with ASUS T4 BIOS (1.131V) = 2152-2164Mhz.
Max overclock using curve method with ASUS T4 BIOS (1.162V) and liquid metal = 2177-2202Mhz.

TLDR. To get good overclocking result with Pascal you will need.
1.Lower temperature.
2.Use curve method instead of normal slider. There are tons of guides about how to do this.
3.Extra voltage can help to achieve higher clock but I don't recommend this on air cooling since the card will run hotter and crash easier.

on my msi gaming x trio 1080ti i achieve +100 on gpu (ingame 2063mhz) and +750 on mem(12600mhz i think) all that at stock bios and fans at 65%...at max voltage 1.062 and i never saw voltage going to 1.093!!?
maybe i should try that curve oc...

Keep in mind...

1. You won't get highest memory speed at highest core speed

2. You won't get highest fps at highest core / memory speeds ... once boost gets involved, it may not like either one of them and yu can / will get higher fps turning one of both down.

I for sure have a bad sample as my OC is +35 on GPU and +225 on memory +15% core voltage and 116% power limit and I only get 1911-1949 on GPU at 1.062v 60-65C
