People think that way because the character list is very diverse. All but one of the characters are a minority or from an oppressed group. And the only character that isn't is a white male classed as a "toxic trapper".

I tried the game thinking I would like it but I didn't. I still much prefer fortnite.

Yes. Who can ignore the obvious pandering to the oppressed minority that is Robots.
You're right, there is a robot. Thanks for reminding me. Besides that, my observation is still accurate.

The apex hype train has been rolling pretty consistently since launch and as someone who has played a stupid amount of PUBG and Fortnite i definitely feel apex is more polished on a number of levels. The gunplay is actually very good and feels much more consistent than other games and information about your health and armor as well as weapons and attachments is well communicated on screen at all times. They also obviously learned from the battle royales before them with attachments equipping automatically and almost completely eliminating the need to ever pull up an inventory menu.

Let's leave our politics out of it, please.
The character diversity, regardless of motive, has real gameplay benefits: you can easily tell what legend you are up against regardless of what cosmetics they may have.

The gunplay is very good, but the "netcode" really needs work. Overall, it was an increadibly smooth launch by modern AAA standards.

There is a competent approach to business - both directly to developers, and those who are responsible for promoting and advertising the project

Its still EA and its still going to fail sooner or later. Enjoy it while it lasts ;) We have seen how PUBG evolved, and we know how Battlefield evolved. The writing is on the wall...

All multiplayer games fail, if you can still get 20 hours of enjoyment for free I don't see any reason to be so negative. Not everyone wants a hardcore experience that lasts a lifetime like E.V.E players. I am not saying that is your point, I get what you are saying those companies milked those franchises to death instead of fixing glaring issues with the large profits initially.

You can say oh what about Quake 2 it still have an active community... yes and no... numbers in ratio to active gamers is very important when discussing these things. Most people want unique experiences, and then after 20-40 hours they get bored and want something else.

I am no fan of EA, just saying I don't see any reason to be so negative about it. Let people enjoy it, it's free, so eh.

Sorry, but no, absolute nonsense. Multiplayer games don't all fail. WoW, CS, Warcraft 3, Overwatch, DOTA, and another few hundred titles would like a word. When you focus only on the recent AAA releases then maybe you can get the impression all MP games fail, but that is not true for a large number of them.

MP games don't need yearly installments, they need dedicated support and moderation. EA is one of those companies with a track record of hopelessly failing at those things, which is why I say what I say. Its the same longevity as any CoD or Battlefield installment: it will last until the next big thing, then gets abandoned, and screw the playerbase/community. Its super mainstream and that means many gullible idiots that will jump right onto the next big thing just like you say, because they simply don't care. That reflects onto the game and it means it won't last. Its like a swarm of locusts moving from one prey to another.

I don't mind the SJW agenda if the game is good (although it's stupid), I would like to have more characters, 6 and 2 premiums is too little too few.
I have some problems with the game, sometimes you get kicked out of the party just after the game finds a match, and sometimes the game just closes, without any error or warning.

all those games you mentioned have already failed, they apply to a niche audience. how many active players from WoW and Dota 2 and Overwatch at its peak - to now? as i said in my original post, 'failing' is determinate on what we agree on as a ratio/percentage of the total gaming populace.

By that definition every single thing fails... eventually. I think even chess falls into that category, and it is still a very popular game from the 6th century (but not as popular as it once was!).

Pretty sure the game industry defines failure/success in terms of meeting expected budget/income vs cost/development time, and in that sense WoW, Dota 2 and Overwatch were huge hits.

Blizzard-Activision just had record layoffs because Overwatch is doing ok but still failing expectations and newest WoW expansion was a dud... as I said two posts ago... Quake 2 is still successful by your definition, I said nothing generates income forever, and no reason to down a game that is free to play and giving people 20 hours of gameplay, because nothing lasts forever anyway.

I am glad I don't play multiplayer games anymore, but to each their own. Did you even read my first post or just the response?

I read your first response.

For the record Blizzard-Activision just had a record year... they cut jobs for a variety of reasons but "Overwatch failing" is definitely not one of them.

Guitar Hero, Heroes of the Storm and a restructuring left too many people with not enough projects to work on. Overwatch was not even mentioned nor were any of the employees working on Overwatch fired.

Overwatch is as far from failing, especially if they fix their e-sports issues.

"Once-hot Activision properties like Guitar Hero are now dormant franchises. The publisher’s licensed game business is a dusty creekbed. High Moon Studios, which made two great Transformers titles, has been supporting Destiny 2. Vicarious Visions, one of two studios on Skylanders, has been working on Destiny 2, also. Toys for Bob, the studio that created Skylanders, developed the Spyro the Dragon trilogy that came out in 2018.
From the outside, Activision’s pipeline is a trickle. The earnings call this week backed that up, as sales estimates are significantly lower for 2019."

So I caved and installed it.

Game's nice. Plays well, has good mechanics. Could do with some more game modes though IMO. Or maps. It does get old quickly.

Its also not terribly skill based is it? A big part is timing, positioning, awareness.

Are we running any TPU based squads? Wouldn't mind a few sidekicks :D

Having never played any of these games, what is the difference between Destiney2 & Apex Legends? To me them seem more team based dungeon grind for loot games while games like fortnite, PUBG and overwatch seem more like multiplayer deathmatch shooters to the novice eye.

Its not a grind for loot at all. Faster than pubg... similar pace to fortnite without building.

I'd say it plays a lot like Borderlands, except competitively online this time and in short bursts. You even get a similarly limited set of skills, and loot is tiered.

Yeah I've had a few of those as well. Server can just insta crap out for no reason and you can straight log back in. Had the game close once on me as well. Luckily there's barely any load times or progress to be saved... and the ingame timers to start a mission are also well balanced out, nice and short, no annoying waits.

Dota 2 is currently (again) the most played steam game with around 1 mil peak players. At its height it had 1.3 mil. Dota is not dying.

apex legends has 50 million players... and its EA... not a huge fanbase like steam. ---- so dying is a relative term when you look at numbers.

So the first time I played I won.. Was completely bored and will probably never play again.

Winning strategy...
Land, run far away from your team and hide... Wait for them to be slaughtered and sneak attack the enemy waiting for you to revive your team...

I think I may have had 2 kills before coming back.. Think there was some type of elimination going on... Very boring .. Very

i still die alot in BR games, but this is the most enjoyable one i have played so far. Im not for 3rd person shooters so Fortnite never grabbed my interest and PUBG i just dont enjoy. I get to play this with my son so that is a big plus for me as we both enjoy the game and squading up together :D

Yeah I have to say the concept is growing on me as well. Some games are done shortly after touching down... others turn into a long and exciting cat & mouse. I enjoy playing with randoms, too; sometimes you get an utterly crappy squad and I just go off solo in that case. Other times you find great teammates and mutual respect.
