As part of these changes, Jony Ive, Bob Mansfield, Eddy Cue and Craig Federighi will add more responsibilities to their roles. Apple also announced that Scott Forstall will be leaving Apple next year and will serve as an advisor to CEO Tim Cook in the interim.

We just fired our IOS software guy for screwing up the maps (he was Jobs' protege and kind of a dick anyways). Also, we fired our Retail Store guy for his staffing policies and also that no one liked him.

Additionally, we decided to announce this while NY is getting pounded by a superstorm and the markets are closed, so that people don't start dumping our stock due to the fact that this is the biggest upper management shakeup in almost 10 years.

And by 'Innovation' we mean - we have saturated our own markets, so there we are going to add sharper screens and make everything as thin as possible, because we really don't know what our client base wants, now that Steve isnt around anymore - hence the iPad mini. And in markets where we are not active yet, we will copy what everyone else is doing and sort of play it by ear, just like the iPad mini.

Basically we will continue to coast on our current product line with minor tweaks... And when the Samsung Galaxy S4 comes out, we will panic, and release a thinner iPhone with a healthy barrage of marketing.

This is all happening because of Scott Forstall and John Browett leaving (most likely code word for "fired"). Instead of replacing them, they are shifting their duties to executives already in the company. An interesting read on the subject:
http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2012/10/29/inside-apples-major-shakeup/

All this, likely because Apple "missed Wall Street's expectations for two consecutive quarters." Apple's soaring value could come crashing down, Cook and the board knew it, so drastic measures had to be taken to keep investor confidence up. They want to milk the cash cow as long as possible.
