About a year ago I made this settings, looking deeply into lots of sites for info to get basic idea how much must I overvolt for a given overclock...
So my board is GA-P35_DS4 2.1 F14-bios , with a Quad Q3000 2.5ghz @ 3.0Ghz , FSB
RAM 1:1, Memory is some cheap mushkin 1066 DDR2 2x1GB 5-5-5-15 @ 800mhz 4-4-4-12-36 as it never runs at 1066 as it was specified for(freeze,registry corruptions,failed boots) RMA didn't help at all they sent me the same crap back. GPU is sapphire HD 4870 512 non overclocked. FSB is at 400 from 333 , Rated FSB is 1600mhz @ MAX the mobo supports.
SPD is 2.0, PCIE Frequency is fixed at 100Mhz instead of Auto as suggested, as the increase of FSB makes PCIE also increase which may cause harm to gpu.
Also another suggest I didn't know PCI clock sync to be at 33.33mhz, but I don't have this setting in my Award Bios. But since I don't use PCI, just PCIE for GPU , than no worry.
The response to q9300 was that they overclock easily to 3ghz with everything on stock settings, but I won't take that as a base 100%, I want to have correct and stable as possible.
Found some big overclocking guides now but ones don't cover Q9300 , but I don't find those I found a year ago who were for q9300.
I however did set the CPU and DDR2 overvoltage correct I think ... but I have no idea about FSB and MCH overvoltage if they are correct to be necessary or stable.
Just for the record the system seems to be stable, crysis works fine, but COD4 which uses RAM so much ..just maybe sometimes freezes with a whole system freeze and sound loop, no HDD activity.
Also I have CPU Fine Clock Ratio to +0.5 that makes it at 3.0GhZ instead of normal 2.8GhZ
Are these okay for the overclock?>:
DDR2 overvoltage +4.0 (in order to even work)
PCIE overvoltage normal
FSB overvoltage +0.10
MCH overvoltage +0.75
CPU overvoltage 1.25625 , 1.22500 is normal.
Loadline Calibration enabled
With Loadline calibration HWmonitor reports VCORE 1.25 , so is this ok?, aren't 45nm suppose to use less power thus being cooler.
Never got a BSOD from overclocking yet.
Oh yes, the PSU is Enermax ELT620AWT Liberty DXX , I spotted thread reviews which they put it in super-high-end category, and just looking in HWmonitor, my voltages are super stable.
Another thing I spotted recently is that MCH overvoltage is needed for example when you have 2x2GB ram , but i have 2x1GB now , should I than put this option to normal or what?
