Are these PCs a good buy?

Hey everyone!

I have a friend who is looking to gift both of these gaming pcs and he is asking me if these PCs are a good purchase. They are similar but different graphics cards and price points. Please take a look at both and let me know your thoughts.

Considering an RTX 3070 is well over £1000 at the moment, a new PC, when put in that context, at £1538, would not seem a bad choice. Not to mention the scarcity of GPUs at decent prices.

It's a yes and no, one one hand it's daylight robbery but on the other it's a fairly good deal with all the shit going on today.

I wouldn't due to the fact i have some thing that will hopefully get me though this shit. But on the other hand shit might just get worse and might be years before any thing becomes any thing reasonable.

What i will say is make sure it's not a single stick of ram as i know some one who just picked one of those up and it's just one stick all so Cyberpower with the crappy air vents.

Check what the actual motherboard is too as it could be a real shit one,

How ever she is very happy with it, whats the current system your friend have now ?.

$2060+tax to me so hell no, but again we don't know what you\your friends position is. He might have a A good Quad core CPU and a 1060\70 which if that was the case i would would upgrade around the GPU. But then they might have a old ass P4 haha.

In the end only you and your friend can really decide.

The Cyberpower description is too generic. I would ask for a full product description with model numbers and brand names, including a breakdown on the RAM sticks.
Don't get foisted off with whatever they put in the case.

Simply saying "80+" does not tell me much - other than those supplies [supposedly] meet the absolute lowest 80 PLUS certification efficiency standards - otherwise known as "80 PLUS Standard" ("White" is sometimes used as opposed to Bronze, Gold, etc., but that's not official).

If true, that still means the supplies are at least 80% efficient at 20, 50 and 100% loads - and that's good, or at least not bad. But without knowing the brand and model number, or at least the brand, we have no clue as to the quality of the supply. But note I said "supposedly". That's because "80+" is NOT an official, authorized designation/Logo from the CLEAResult 80 PLUS certification program. "80 PLUS" is. "80+" is not.

So is that misuse of the term intentional deception, or an innocent mistake? We don't know. That's why knowing the PSU brands and model numbers would be nice to know. The PSU is, after all, one of, if not the most critical components of our computer - since everything else inside the case depends on good, clean stable power.

After doing some digging, the more expensive model psu is Cooler Master B600 600W with model # CGS480VR1258.

cheaper version is psu 400W 80+ but no other name given. No model number found yet

Both people who will recieve these pcs dont have a gaming pc. they are just using a laptop. But this is a gift and we dont want them to get a shitty product.

I would too. In my experience trying to help gamers choose components from a boutique builder like Cyberpower is they usually use the term Standard 80 Plus and list the wattage. No real way to know if it's quality and will last.

I liked your idea from a previous thread about using a local PC repair shop to build the PC. The OP could get some help picking out quality parts here and take the list to some local shops for a quote. I'm sure it would cost a little more this way but I think peace of mind is worth something knowing that you have a quality gaming PC that will last for years and years. All the builds that I have done have lasted.

Prebuilts cheaping out on motherboards and PSUs to seem more appealing than building your own PC with quality mobo/PSU? In other news the sky is blue.

They also probably have single channel RAM which is the bane of Dawid Does Tech Stuff's existence.

Your other option could be getting a PC built to order, where you choose the parts and they build it for you. Could be less disastruous.

Good point, but isn't their a scarcity of parts going on now? Plus I don't know what parts go with other parts and what requirements I need to meet. I'd have to hire someone to do the entire thing based off of what I will use it for. But I appreciate the feedback and I'll look into it.

You could just ask around here on the forums, I'm sure people would be glad to help you put together a competent list of parts.

As for the pricing, yes you'll have to be prepared to pay more than what you'd expect to usually but honestly? You should end up in about the same ballpark as with a prebuild but with significantly better parts.

i just bought a decent pre-build from CCL computers in the UK.. all brand name parts and with a three year warranty.. this forum may sometimes give good advice but not always..

Brand name means exactly horseshit.
(Basically) all the boards are made by one of the big four basically yet almost all of the lower-end ones which prebuilders prefer suck total ass.
Lowend corsair PSUs I'd not put into systems worth more than $500. Gigabyte PSU (lol.) go boom.
You can get a brand-name H310 board. Or one of the famous ROG B460s (lmao).
Any of these may hamstring your system to a various degree, and speak of a part list made by someone who is either inept or worse.

It's not the brand name that matters, it's whether the parts are actually good. Single channel 2666MHz RAM is bad, whatever label is stuck on it.

This isn't to say that the parts used by CCL are necessarily bad, but that brand name alone aren't enough to work out whether a product is good.
