Which CFL processor would you buy? For your requirements, with the money you have.

Voted i5 8600K. Seems ample enough for my games for the time being.

Heck even my 7600K is pulling its weight.

I have to admit, the 8700K is really tempting to finally replace my 4790K...

being on i4770k i'm very dissapointed with:
- very high operating temps especially when u overclock it to 5ghz
- needs very high voltage
and DOESEN'T give that much performance in games opposed to 7700k, 6700k...zero to non oced 8700k
skippin and waiting for ddr5 and pci express 4.0

Same. I don't regret it really, since I needed a new machine at the time anyways.

I kinda regret it as I could've survived with my 4690K @4.6ghz for a little while longer...

Been leaning towards a AMD build but will probably hold off until Ryzen2, hopefully when my Z-97WS gets back from RMA again it will hold off until then. Think Intel will probably be good after some BIOS updates but prices will always be the deciding factor :peace:

Good locked processors, unlocked ones still too expensive, overclocking enabled motherboards still too expensive, K models still without a heatsink, socket longevity still in one year more or less, this new 1151 is a joke.
AMD saying AM4 lasts until 2020, and seeing how good the R3 1200 heatsink is sold me. Still waiting for the APUs, maybe see the Pentiums.

I put "skipping this gen", but I may just jump on the AMD wagon. Even if I have a 7700k.. it may not be my main machine soon enough. The heatsink options seem a lot more sensible, but it's just icing on the cake.

Voted to "skip this gen" as well. I have a cpu that is both beefy and more than meets my needs. Having said that, if I were in the market for an upgrade, the easy choice would be Ryzen given my usage methodology.

Good point!

Oh, go for something just a bit more powerful. I've built a few systems based on the Ryzen 5 1600. The extra 2 cores and multi-threading makes a very decent difference. However, for the money the Ryzen 3 is a good option. But if you can afford it, go the 6 core route, it'll future proof your system much more. Bare minimum though, get a nice motherboard based on a chipset that allows for overclocking.

I am personally gonna skip this generation because I am happy with my system and I don't want and feel the needs for new parts.

Yes ... no ... i don't know. My 3770k has 4.5 years of faithful service and i would upgrade to a i5 8600k, but that ddr 4 price is absurd. I have 2x8 GB 2133 and upgrading to 2x8 GB 3200 would mean selling my RAM and add 100% of its value.
The good part is i could keep my cooler, opposed to upgrading to a Ryzen.

I've been going back and forth about this for the longest. I'm going to wait and see what Ryzen does in Feb. If AMD doesn't deliver I'm going with the i7-8700k and 32gb of ram and calling it a day.

I'm looking at a threadripper 1900x now and upgrading in February to Pinnacle Ridge. Looking at a shiny gtx 1080 ti, but I think before I buy anything else (Already bought Ram and PSU) I'll wait till Black Friday/Cyber Monday. That way I can try and save some $$. Maybe a nice 1440p 144hz monitor or an ultra wide while I'm at it. The 8700k would make more sense, but it's limit of 16 pcie lanes is disappointing/limiting to an enthusiast who wants to do more than just game. Not to mention they're probably going to do to z370 what they did to z270 effectively leaving me dead in the water.

grabbed a smashing deal on a second hand ryzen that turned out really good

a ryzen 5 1400 @ 4ghz matches almost perfectly (1-3% faster!) than my 4.7GHz 3770k at much lower wattages, so i'm thinking of making that my primary system, and later on getting an 8 core ryzen if the 2nd gen variants work on first gen boards.

If they dont, this'll become the wifes system and i'll get whatever appeals the most at the time (CL/ryzen 2.0)

Taking the existing prices into consideration and for anyone without a 144Hz monitor, Ryzen is easily the best path to build on it, as AM4 will be upgradeable for 3 series of CPUs instead of the Intel's usual milking.
