What are you on about? There is no magical point in how to use them. You're making up rules to make a bad situation look better. I'm not shuffling my shit back and forth all the time cause I want it to be speedy for that week. I'll buy one when it can actually hold my data.

You must not have a lot of data. I have 8TB on my server. I don't see SSDs (or even regular HDDs for that matter) hitting 10TB any time soon. There are no rules, and you can use them as storage, but you get the best bang for buck by using SSD's for OS and programs, and HDDs for storage. It makes perfect sense to do it that way if you want the best of both worlds.

IM running a OCZ Vertex2E 90Gb

This^

from an 80GB X25-M v2. Sold the X25-M and still had some change left after buying the V2E. Touch!

OS and most played games on the SSD, everything else is on a 640GB black, a 1TB F3 or a 1TB green

Want one, but I'm poor. I'm selling my main system anyways to feed my car and the computers I have left are to weak for SSD's.

i'll look at SSDs when they get down to ~$1.5 per GB. :)
less than 100GB is too small for me as a system drive.

My Spinpoint in RAID-0 are plenty fast for me. If I ahve 200 bucks or so to spare, I'd rather upgrade something else before I invest it in a SSD.

An OS drive for OS + mian applications and maybe 1 or 2 games shouldn't need more than 50~60 GB, and a 50~60GB Vertex 2 can be found at and under 100$ these days

I prefer to sit tight and wait for SSD's to have a much more affordable $ per Gb. I don't know, the day when a 1Tb SSD is the same price as today's 3Tb HDD's? Yes, I know, I'll be sitting for a while, because if I stand, I'll get tired.

Wait for the next gen revodrive based off the newest sandforce controller. The way OCZ is pumping out SSDs it's going to be here soon.

It's crazy how fast SSDs are getting faster. Pretty soon they will hit the wall in terms of speed, and then they will probably start seriously lowering the prices.

The wait is actually not on RevoDrive type of PCIe cards but on native PCIe controller chips, and we then can skip the hole SATA part, as even the revo still uses NAND to (controler chip to SATA) to (raidcontroler (to PCI-X) to PCIe)
the revodrive got a extra PCI-X to PCIe chip as the PCI-X raid-controller chip that they use it a lot cheaper then native PCIe controlers

Ware native controllers would make 2 conversion steps obsolete, and i think that these cards are even going to give PCIe Gen-3 that is coming out with the X68 a run for its money.
But then i think that we then are at a point, ware there is for 99.9% of the uses, there is no more point of having more speed.

Intel's X25M 80GB for OS (since it came out). Enjoyed quick boot and snappy overall responsiveness ever since.

Slightly off topic: What would be better? Upgrade to a faster SSD (get another intel x25m 80gb for raid 0) or wait for GB/$ to go up?

No trim support in Raid unless your drive has all the autowipe features as OCZ

Using a Silverstone HDDBoost with an old SuperTalent 32GB ssd. Makes everything snappy on the cheap. ;)

SLC will always be expensive. They are marketed towards businesses as being super relieable. So they will always command a healthy price premium.

Not to state the obvious here, but using words like "always" and "never" is risky when it comes to technology. The real question is whether or not SLC solutions will become cost effective for mainstream consumer use before something better replaces them. Either way, SLC-level performance will eventually cost what HDDs do today for a given storage capacity.

I agree with you on this one. That's why I'm holding on to my money until the price comes down on SLC SSD model.

Thats what I do. SSD for OS/apps/games and two standard HD for storage and backup. 29 second boots and everything is smooth as butter.

The real question is whether or not SLC solutions will become cost effective for mainstream consumer use before something better replaces them. Either way, SLC-level performance will eventually cost what HDDs do today for a given storage capacity.

Don't hold your breath. They may not "always" be more expensive, but for the foreseeable future of current ssd tech, they will be.
SLC is currently an enterprise solution, and as such is significantly more expensive. It's a pretty safe bet that they will not be lowering SLC prices any time soon.
