Are you using any encryption on your mobile phone?

I was just wondering if anyone is using any type pf encryption on your phone? And if you are would you share your thoughts or maybe recommend something that is good. I really dont have anything to hide on my phone but still i would like to know.

I read that android has some kind of encryption built in and it should only be used as a last resort because it's only reversible with a factory reset which wipes all you data (so in case of theft it seems good enough), but I wanted to know if there is anything stronger or would anyone recommend me looking into writing an encryption algorithm.

If you have taken the time to encrypt it, why would you want to reverse it?

I should really encrypt it - everyone should - because my whole life is there. Apple made the right move there by having them encrypted by default. I can't be bothered with passwords though, or the pattern thing. Not with something I use so frequently.

If you have taken the time to encrypt it, why would you want to reverse it?

Well it kind of seems pointless but would still nice to have that option, but seeing it takes about an hour to encrypt the whole phone it would probably take even more to decrypt it.

Well you are talking about different things, encrypting the phone data doesn't encrypt all your communications (messages etc) as you are using it which I think SnakeDoctor was referring to.

As to the OP, no I don't, I use a simple swipe pattern to unlock which isn't support when encrypted, that has to be a password and I use my phone that much that it would be a pita entering a password every time I want to unlock it...

No, just a swipe pattern. Not that it would be that hard to figure out, but still, for that to fail I would either have to leave my phone behind somewhere (which I don't) or someone would have to physically take it from me. Honestly the main reason I even started using a swipe pattern in the first place is because with the simple phone lock I was still unlocking my phone and doing shit while it was in my pocket.

Yeah, that is annoying. My tablet is the same way.

For phone, I don't mess with smartphones. Don't want to pay the data bill for one. So I stick to a old school slider with removable battery. Bad enough my mom got one. Need to VLAN it off from the rest of the computers.
