That's interesting, unlike the Asus MARS, which cost well over a grand in UK money, the Asus Ares is a bargain at £800. lol

For anyone that's mad enough to buy one, Overclockers have them, but there's only three in stock.

I await W1zzard's review with interest. :rockout:

now, I must order two for some hot crossfire action...

Sorry, "cheap" and £800 don't go together with Graphics...

Overclockers too, i'd rather spend £100 more at another retailer, tbh.

You could get 4 2nd hand 5870s for that price.

5760x1080. Add AA, and 1GB isn't enough.

Too bad no North American retailer has these for sale on thier own, or I might pick one up, just for fun.

Hence the 'YOU'.

I just can't see the market for these. At all. They'd need to be £400 for me to even care.

The computer market moves wayy to fast to purchase extremely high-end kit. You buy, then afew months down the line, you can get better for alot cheaper...

Only reason I can think of is to say "I have an Asus Ares". E-peen junkies are funny  Though as crazyeyes stated, if I had a money tree growing out back, I would grab one...no, on second thought, I would grab two. :D

100% agree here...it's so late in the 5-series life now, that this product is at least 6-months late, IMHO.

I want it for Eyefinity, but also as a collector's peice. I have quite a few cards that came in briefcases...kinda sad this one won't be added to them.

Yeah, I'm not too keen on them either I must admit. And on your "cheap" note: I've realised that meant to say it's a "bargain" in my OP. :)

+1 The collector's angle. I have quite a few cards I keep for this, all generally bought cheaply. So, I have a HD2900Pro 1GB which was my lemon purchase, but I love it anyway. I love the physical design of it, if nothing else.

Then I have no less than three variants of the 8800 GTX:

XFX 8800 GTX bought B-grade cheap off Overclockers

Asus 8800 Ultra bought B-grade cheap off Overclockers (this is the one that has a GTX style cooler. Yes, I didn't know about these until it was delivered

And then finally we have a BFG 8800 Ultra bought brand new and boxed off eBay for £100 a while back. This has the fancy Ultra cooler and everything. :rockout: After briefly using it, it now lives in its box on my shelf. And I'm happy.

I also have a 3dfx Voodoo 3 PCI somewhere. It could play UT99 in 16-bit colours only!

only reason you'd need that many monitors and that much memory on the gpu is if you needed a professional grade gpu in which case you'd be better off with the FirePro V9800. Even if it is single gpu and more expensive it will still perform better at those professional tasks.

(though you might be able to flash an eyefinity 5870 to firepro v8800 and get near the same performance for a third the cost albeit only at 2gb rather than 4gb)

for gaming dual 5970's beat a single aries and at a similar cost these days

I've thanked you just because you've put those unpronounceable characters up on my thread! :toast:

What one earth do they mean?!
