Dual RTX 2080ti OC stuck at Power target status 400% and GPU clock at 300MHz. (as in picture, just after reboot) Is this card dead?
pasted image 0.png

The card may occasionally operate normally, but usually sooner or later goes into Power target status 400% and GPU clock 300MHz. It still works, but as 300 MHz would assume
  • The card was not (perhaps) opened before, because the warranty sticker was intact and in place. However, I opened the card and changed thermal pastes even though there was nothing wrong with the heat.
  • Checked that everything is okey inside the card. (i don't know anything about electrical things, but everything seemed to be in order. lol)
  • Replaced the card with another BIOS and it didn't work either.
The card has now been on two different computers and the same problems continue. So I don't think the problem is due to Windows / driver / other component.

Are you monitoring this card during a game or idle? Seems like idle to me. Do not expect 2080 TI to boost clock while the card is doing nothing. The target clocks and power will go up when you are taxing the card. Use a benchmark or a game and then look how it behaves.

You seem to have set the max and min frequency. and you can see the graph showing that frequency did go up to more than a 300 MHz.
I guess the card is fine. Test it during a game.

Check his "current" readouts, total power at 400 with 300mhz GPU clock. And it's dropping during actual load.

Get rid of the GPU tweak, use gpuz to verify clocks.

The same problem continues when playing or testing.
For example in 3Dmark, at the beginning of the test, the card may be fully functional, about 150 FPS. Suddenly, the FPS may drop to 30 and this can continue for either 2 seconds or the rest of the test..
I'll post more data and pictures later today.

Are you saying he's overclocked the card to 400% of the power? Yeah I can see that now since you have pointed it out. That is crazy and I didn't even know 2080TI's can go that far.

Get rid of all the OC. set the card to default like Chomiq said.

Problem solved..Maybe.. I will now look at a few days if the graphics card remains stable.

If graphics card fans are in "auto mode", fans RPM (0-2000rpm) and power target(102-400%) will be bouncing continuously.
But when I put the fans at a steady 50% speed, I was able to run 15x 3DMark test without any problems. o_O

Remove that GPU tweak bs and install afterburner from MSI and add a custom fan curve.

Weird stuff and this may have damaged your card too, but let's hope not.

At first glance I thought we were looking at a dead card... the extraordinary power target is usually a sign the card won't be able to get out of idle clocks anymore. But yours did... luckily.

Why would anyone do such an OC to any card anyway? That's just crazy.

Yeah, from original graph it looked like the right fan was bouncing between on and off constantly.

Thing is, he wasn't oc'ing the card.

Well, from what I noticed is it's been OC'ed from the start and that is OPs question and concern. Changing cards from one to the other without properly removing drivers may cause problems. Maybe it is an used card and there is bios modification? Have you ever heard about a card (any card) that can push 400% power envelope with a regular Bios? I haven't. Don't know all the details but I assume after default settings all is back to normal.

Total Power % does behave differently when idle compared to load. I have not seen quite 400% but it does go over 100% with some regularity in my RTX2080. My best guess is that this is part of idle power management and drivers use lower power target for idle to keep things in check.

Not sure what you are trying to say here.
= Factory overclocked model. Thats what hes trying to say.

The same problems continue. Ideas? Picture is taken right after reboot.

Either do a DDU with a clean install and dont use 442.19 , they are bugged as hell ! use the beta 442,37 driver , much better. Or do a clean windows 10 install

Isn't that the fail state for nvidia cards? Once something has broken it 'maxes' the power limit and locks the card to idle clocks?

I have tried a few different drivers, but of course I can download someone specific if you can recommend something. (Looks like 442.19 :toast:)
This computer has just been loaded with clean windows = no effect
And like i have told in first post, the card has now been on two different computers and the same problems continue
