The ASUS GeForce RTX 4080 STRIX OC is a masterpiece graphics card design. It looks fantastic and is built like a tank, thanks to thick metal used on both the main cooler shroud and the backplate. The card is also the highest-clocked in our reviews and comes with a super powerful VRM.

Fix needed : Page 41, green color is used for 'quiet bios' bar in 2nd last graph (board power limit), and then brown color is used for 'quiet bios' in the last graph (board power limit max).

And vice versa for the colors of the 'non quiet oc' bars.

I appreciate your reviews for the data as I feel they are the best out there for GPUs and the easy comparison figures in the relative performance charts to other cards. Having said that, it's disappointing how you guys always give "editor's choice" to stuff that clearly shouldn't get that, this specific card being a perfect example. It's bad enough you give that to the already overpriced 4080 FE but THIS one with its $350 premium that puts it 50 bucks less than the 4090 msrp? No freaking way. It's like every product you guys now review is an editor's choice, which in itself makes no sense.

It's just really disappointing to see that you guys won't take a stand and call out Nvidia for I guess fear they will give you backlash. I see it at most other review sites with only Hardware Unboxed and GamersNexus seemingly being willing to call out Nvidia or anyone else for their crap and risk blowback from Nvidia or those other companies. Just go look at the 4080 reviews from those two sites on Youtube right now. Both are calling out Nvidia for this insane pricing and the fact there is no price to performance lift from last gen. You'll note they won't get blowback or a threat to "cancel" them because Nvidia knows people value those sites and trying to "cancel" those sites will just lead to gamer wrath. We saw how Nvidia tried it with I think Hardware Unboxed last year and it blew up in their face. You guys need to take a page from those two sites and start doing the same instead of seemingly being afraid you may tick off Nvidia.

It's also disappointing you put the 4090 price as $2400 as though that is the price of the card. Just because one site is selling it for that via scalpers right now doesn't mean the price should be listed as such. Are you going to adjust this review when that card is back in stock and the price is lower? A look at previous reviews where you list the current scalper prices that have since dropped indicates you will not be updating the review when this happens. By inflating the price of the 4090, you make any gullible reader think that the 4080 is actually a good deal if it is 25% slower at half the cost.

And a forced blue/red color scheme.

I already know by now i'm getting a MSI Gaming X Trio 4060 or 4070. Should be just fine for 1440p60.

I think that issue with EVGA simply was because of the marging. The downfall of 3DFX was called in the moment they started to produce their own cards, and kind of made it very difficult for 3rd party vendors to create or design their own ones. This is why the Asus is quite more expensive then the founders edition. Its because Asus does have a certain reputation and brand, they can charge for it.

Nvidia in for the money. They are cutting from all possible corners.

This is the stupidest video card I've read about in a long while, because it's too close to the 4090 in price. I've to echo the chorus, and suggest that it's time for another badge besides Editor's Choice. I think you should have a "Not recommended" badge.

Question, well, suggestion. Have we approached enough data to start showing "Cost per frame with RT on"? It seems like a very useful graph for cost conscious buyer interested in RT. Check average FPS *with RT*, if it's "good enough", check cost per FPS *with RT*, pretty much 80% decision achieved.

Wow!

Looky-looky, at all the new accounts created just to trash the 4080s (every site) reviews. Nothing suspicious about this at all, yo. /s :twitch:

Anyway, I do find it very odd that any deliberate gouged 4080 SKU is considered a "recommended product" (edit: Editor's Choice! :twitch:) due to obvious of reasons, though, but hey, who are we to make a difference right?! This is Wiz's site and beliefs but it's always the consumer with the FINAL decisions, PERIOD!

So, calm down, folks, and do you, just like always!

Fixed voltage and clock speed in this test. Impressive stuff.
1.075 V is a bit excessive though. I wish Nvidia would give us an option to adjust the voltage limit.

Ridiculous "Editor choice" Techpowerup cannot be trusted to be a serious Reviewer from now with that review, it to big to close ours eyes on that one.
I like the TPU dont get me wrong but I think this website is very anti consumer. Pretty much every single review has some kind of recommend badge. Or the news section which usually starts with the brand advert like - Leading manufacter, one of the worlds leading etc. Like everyone and everything here is the best :)

Less than 20% of the responses on this page is of a new account. In fact there are only three, and there are more long term users voicing similar complaints.

I hope you don't do something with numbers IRL

Great card imo.
I just ignore the price, since I believe no Nvidia card is worth what it costs in this gen.

lol at all the comments complaining about the award.
It's cleary among the best 4080 versions out there (just look at that noise/cooling performance).
This isn't about the price/performance of the 4080 chip, but about the cooler they put on it and some other enhancements in comparison to the other brands..

And for those extra perks you get an even worse price/perf metric than the vanilla 4080, and the end performance is the same.

I think the complaints are on the money . You like it. Great. Others don't.

I will say now, that at least in Australia, the price of this card is well worth the premium over the other contending 4080's. The MSI Ventus 3x, they're lowest priced card along with there best selling, is currently retailing for $1,939 AUD, now, compare that to the ASUS ROG Strix, which comes out of the box higher clocked, quieter, with better cooling performance on both the GPU and the VRM's retailing at $2,299 AUD, which is a $360 AUD difference ($242 USD roughly for American folk). I'm not your average consumer, falling under the "power user" category, and my justification being, if I'm already spending almost $2000 on a graphics card, I may as well wait another pay to fork out the remaining $300 to get the best of the best (not including water cooled solutions), this is just my POV on it, and I understand if others have differing views, just thought it might provide insight on people's who's views are similar to mine :D

If you're willing to pay AUD $360 more for no difference in performance, then why not buy a 4090 which will have much more performance?

I'm not trying to be mean here, but I feel like you've intentionally only read the parts of my message that suits your narrative. I clearly stated there is no performance gain, however things that are important to me, such as cooling performance/headroom, and also noise levels of the card, also includes warranty processes in my country etc and the name value of the brand, the cheapest 4090 here is an Inno3D X3 OC that is $2799. It's a lot more then a $360 difference, this would be a $860 difference for the price of the 4090, including the aforementioned $360. That is nearly $1000...
