Asus HD3870

Hi all,

I just bought this card yesterday and did a mini system update. I was formally on AGP with X1950Pro 512mb. Now running a Asus A8N32 SLI Deluxe + 3870. First all the jump from previous card to new card very noticeable. Games like BioShock and Call of Duty 4 runs much better.

However, the fan settings in the bios of this card is horrible.

30% at 60c wtf!

Is there a bios released that has proper fan settings, the Stock cooler is actually decent but the settings are holding it back.

i'm using the newest Riva Tuner now, but would like a more permanent solution than just increasing fixed fan speed.

Any Ideas or help ?

wanna dare try the gecube bios.. he he he.. so far we havnt found a willing victim.. see gecube bios thread..

its still 30% at 85 C it hits 45% at 93 C and holds the card around 90 C.. i think the gecube bios targets 70 C not the 90 C ATI seem to choose..

I would like to use Riva, but the only option is the fixed fan speed,

I would like to be able to modify the auto settings. so I could say run it at 50C 40% fan speed and 60c 55% etc etc.

I'm very new to riva tuner, i've always been a Ati Tool kinda guy so forgive the questions if they sound noobish

However his bios only look like they increase core and memory clocks no word on fan speeds.

I have found that once you play with Rivatuner it isnt as tough as it first seems . Also in Trogs gecube flash thread http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=46939 There is a post where Kaliban explains briefly how to set progressive fan speeds.

If his post isnt descriptive enough, try shooting him a PM for a better explination of how to do it. Personally I just set mine to 70% all the time and it was tollerable (noise) and temps were good!

I find anything over 60% starts to get noticeable, tho its not really an issue when in game or with a headset on. when sitting at the desktop tho I like to have it at 30-40%.

If anyone was wondering i'm doing 9015 3dmark06. Stock video no overclocking.

I need to increase my processor overclock, but this board has quite the few learning curves. On my Neo2 Platinum it was very easy I was doing 2.75Ghz. However on this board i'm currently at 2.5 until I find out its quirks.

Does ATITool not control fan speed on these cards? I have mine told to do so and hope the card doesn't cook!

yes and no...some it does well, while others are reported to respond a bit oddly to it!

I un-plugged mine from the board and ran it straight off the psu.

Its not bad at all to be honest, if anything else put a cheap fan controller on it.

i followed that guide and setup the Different fan speeds by Temp in Riva tuner, however they don't work. When i switch them nothing happens, I think it has to do with the fan settings itself. I noticed when i'm on fixed and then say try to go from 80% to 40% it will just bypass it and stick to 80%. However if I go to 100% then back down to say 50% it will stick.

Also on a side note, I got my overclock back up to previous boards which is 2.75 GHz. So the extra 250mhz gave me a 500 point increase in 3dmark06.

I wondering if I can get it up to 3Ghz if I will get another 500 points.
