Asus Maximus III Gene Runs x16 @ Second PCI-E 2.0 x16 port?

i am wondering if this motherboard will run x16 with a graphic card put in the second pci-express port aka the lowest, bcs i want to use the PCI-E x8 port for a USB3.0 addon card and my MSI N460GTX Hawk uses two slots bcs of it's cooler, so does it do x16 in both PCI-Express 2.0 x16 ports when only one card is in?

NO, it only runs @ 8x. jsut swapped my card in there to verify.

The difference in performance between PCIe 2.0 x16 and PCIe 2.0 x8 is minimal (~1%) at worst. If you need to use the lower slot to fit a USB 3.0 card, I would do it and not worry about the performance impact.

Arigatou gozaimasu for the testing cadaveca, that just means that i need to find another way to get USB3.0 than from PCI-E x1 card i don't want my GFX to run @ x8 when it's not in SLi

I think thats the limitation with the P55 PCIex slots correct? i know i have the X58 rampage II gene and its full 16x16

no LGA1366 / X58 here only LGA1156 / P55 it uses eletronic x16 @ Single and x8 @ dual but still it would be nice if it was x16 even in the lowest port when there is only one card in it.

The 1156 boards are indeed limited to [x8x8] or [x16x4] depending on mobo. though as another poster stated, that the difference is minimal and wouldnt be noticed
