Hello everyone. I have had my R9 290x for almost two years without any issues (minus a bad fan which i recently replaced).

Today I was playing overwatch, and for the first time ever, my screen went black stating "no display port."
Rebooted without any image issues.
Launched game again same thing happened.
Updated drivers to latest AMD drivers.
Rebooted game again and same issue happened.

I am now reinstalling the game.

If this continues to happen, what are my options here?
Also, at times when the image cut out (black screen), the fans went full throttle.
The temps are acceptable, not overheating.

For the first time ever the card crashed again during normal web browsing / microsoft word, fans went full throttle. What is going on?! Also making a weird static like noise (new).

Could be that the GPU is slowly breaking down, but it's just a guess for now.

I will have to try HDMI once it happens again. Been on windows for last 20 minutes no crash. Really hoping it lasts till VEGA (i know asus has three year limited warranty but I do not want to RMA, but if I have to, oh well).

I suspect it only crashes when you start a (3D) game, so you have to try Overwatch or something else again to be sure.

Okay then maybe just the DP went bad and you can continue by using the other ports. Should work for a while.

Im still using the DP though. But if it happens to crash via DP port, I will try HDMI.

Nope PSU is solid man. No issues.
Motherboard has no issues either. Everything works great. Monitor shows each part as healthy and ethernet USB all that works great.
Scratching my head right now.

So yeah... Same thing happened after loading newly downloaded overwatch, black screen, fans full load.

However, when I am not playing a video game, no issues.

So I believe at this point its truly an issue with the card..:mad::mad::mad:

That sucks! I would at least try putting it on different power rails if you can. Maybe pull a stick of ram and try them individually.
There's a lot of stuff you can try really to break it down. Add a little voltage to it through driver or other software. Add a little voltage to the pci-e slot.

Hey it's all worth a shot.

Edit: Okay. Well this time it's bad to be right I guess. ;)

If you still have warranty left, use it.

Soo did I void my warranty by replacing fans ?? (did not remove reference cooler). But I stripped a screw on fan shroud bracket so it's missing a screw

How did you replace the fans without removing the cooler? I'm asking because they are the same. Thermal pads, TIM and overheating come to my mind.

Just popped off the top shroud bracket and removed the fans. Didn't remove the reference cooler at all. Was actually very easy but the screws holding the shroud were very soft

RMA people are trained to find any kind of tampering.

If they can get out of it... THEY WILL!!

There is a chance but missing screws is hard to miss. Not to mention them charging you for return shipping of a broken video card
