Hi,

Im using ATITool for monitoring. Currently, im running the artifact scanning (fan speed at 50%) and the temperature is stable at 62 degree C. I would like to know if its too hot?

Yesterday, i was running Elders scrolls 4 : Oblivion and after 2hrs of gamming, my computer shut down completly (surprise !...). Im not sure if the temperature went very hot (i had not ATITool yesterday). My computer can shut down because of the video card like this?

Is there are another way to make the temperature drop...?

thx a lot everybody

Use ATI Tray Tools, it saves temps log, alspv u can adjust fan speed , depending of your GPU temp. Anyway, my sapphire x1950pro runs idle at 50C and in full load at 75, so i dont think thats why ur system crashes.

lol... dont think any need to worry :p the previous gen card x1900xtx can safely run at 90C, so 60 is great, the x1950 may b ment to run cooler, but hell 60 aint anything to worry about on x1k cards

scanning for artifacts doesn't really load your GPU like playing Oblivion or some other high-end 3d game.

I would bet my last dollar that your PC shutdown because SOMETHING overheated.

How old is the card? I find that I have to pull mine every 6 months or so to clean the dust out of the stock cooler.
The dust usually forms in front of the fins, preventing airflow.

Fire up oblivion for an hour or more, then ALT+TAB and check the ATITool graph

I agree with Zek, what power supply do you have? 9 times out of 10, a sudden shutdown is cause by 1 of 3 things: A component failure(but it runs now, so that's out), a cpu overheat(you made no mention of high cpu heat, so I'm guessing that's out as well), and a psu overload.

While you're at it, you may just want to list all of your specs, it will make it much easier for us to help you.

Have you played Oblivion for more than 2 hours, since the random restart?

It could have just been a fluke. Your house power might've dipped low for a sec or 2. WHo knows? lol If you have any other probs, let us know.
