ASUS RMA turning A super pain in the ...... DONT BUY! / ?

Just want to give everyone A heads up about ASUS.

So about A two months back one of my 2x 780 ti DC2 died on me. I RMAed it , took them about 15 days after they received it (not including shipping time) to reply to me and tell me it could not be fixed / replaced with same thing and offered me A 980 Strix Refurb or I could wait for A 780ti to show up. I inform of my SLI set up and that the 980 will not work with my other 780 ... is their anyway I can Arrange getting 2 of the same cards So I can run my 5760 x 1080p set up. They reply they will exchange my 2nd card for another 980 stirx (Sweet) via another RMA. I am more then happy at this point and Agree to this. A second(new) RMA email was sent to me.

It takes another Week and 1/2 for the first 980 to show up. Having not sent in the 2nd one yet, as that would leave me with nothing for fallout 4 and wanted to test and see that the first 980 was all good.

On arrival, I had noticed the 980s Fans and shroud were covered in oil and had made A post about it on here, after talking to A few of yall it seemed ok to use it and did so, however more oil showed up after cleaning it. I also informed them of this Issue and they just referred to their Tech support number as I had only been talking too the upgrade lady. This tech support number is A call center in India, it is very hard to understand them and they are NOT Techs, they just type what you say and pass it on. After some emails they dont see this As A issue and assume it is extra oil from repair and will stop... and it seems it has. Being content with the 980 ( check it every day ) I go head and RMA my 2nd (working) 780 ti for the other 980 strix exchange (Cost me 40.00 to ship it / same as the first RMA) ...

I had sent the 2nd RMA in over 2 weeks ago, It was delivered on the 19th , had been checking on the RMA status online everyday .. with no update. Had not wanted too push them cause they were doing me A solid. However, Today I reply to the Upgrade lady I had been talking to, asking about it. I get A reply from another guy saying he sent them and email and was going to ask what was going on. ( I had also put A summery of the events that had happen so she would remember (assume she has alot of other cases). I replied thank you and 10 mins or so after that ... I get Another email from him ... telling me the 780tis are out of stock and they want to offer me A 970 ?????

... I did not pay 40.00 to send in my working 780 ti for A 970 refurb ... 1) its not what they told me they were going to give me. 2) its not A upgrade 3) its worth less the 780ti ... If I knew this was how it was going too happen I would of saved 40.00 and sold my 780 ti .....

Am I in the wrong here ?

Never had any issues with Asus RMA. though I've only ever had to RMA a gtx470. But damn that sounds like hell.

I was about to go on a tirade and absolutely lose my cool and sympathise with you that the ASUS RMA dept is less than helpful from my experience.

I then took all of my will power and reminded myself that I am civilized and should act in accordance with what is socially acceptable and expected of someone whos educated.

I agree with your sentiment and sympathize with your situation, I hope they rectify the issue in an acceptable amount of time given the circumstances.



That took alot out of me.

They should send you either 980 or 980Ti.

A 980 is already a step down in their product stack. Besides they obviously don't understand what the situation is anyway. A 970 won't run with your 980 in SLI, will it? (Unless nVidia has slackened SLI requirements?)

Update ... it has been A epic pain, however they have shipped me Another 980 its seems ... took forever tho. I will say, as of right now I am done with Asus .. I have been A Asus - ROG supporter / Fanboy for some time ... its over.


Its funny, because I use to only buy MSI lightning GPUs .. but had some bad luck with my last 6970 L ... I thought they were bad with RMAs ...but it was nothing like this. ... If we did A scale of 1 - 10 ... ( No real tech support ( Over seas call center), They amount of hands offs / other ppl you have to deal with. The backtracking / relaps of what they told me they were going to do / tryed too do/cheat me ... and the Amount of time. The only way this could of ended up any worst is if they just did not send me anything. I will give this A 3 out 10 ... and that now makes my MSI experience so much better then I thought it was .... But would Say sapphire is the best I have dealt with (However they are only ATI / AMD and ... this was over 10 years ago , was ATI cards ... so cant say for now how they are )


Anyhow it really is not even over yet, hoping when the card shows up it is all working good...



From my point of view, dont buy Asus stuff ... I think their RMA sucks.

Are you meaning from a 980Ti or from a 780Ti? Because 780Ti to 980 is an upgrade.

Are you meaning from a 980Ti or from a 780Ti? Because 780Ti to 980 is an upgrade.


It is A upgrade, However it is not in the same line of tech. Most companies will replace it with the same line. Example. When my MSI 6970 Lightning died, MSI replaced it with A 7970 Lightning .. Same line of cards. They could of gave me A reference 7970 and it would of been A upgrade also, But they gave me the newest version of the same product line. ... Think of it as the Price you paid for the card ... 780 ti when new would be in the same price line As A 980 ti .. not A 980 or even 970.

Asus , will just give you something new ... that is not in the same price stack.


I am going back to MSI after this .... Die in A fire Asus !

That would be the first time I have heard of it put that way. My experience as well as what I have observed is that a company is only obligated not to downgrade you, based on features and performance.

Since they had no more 780Ti's, and since no Maxwell is an exact match, they improved by going to a 980 Seems like they met their obligation?

@neko77025 I've seen a few sorry tales about Asus lately and no, you're 100% in the right here. That mystery oil on the replacement 980 doesn't sound right at all. Was it around the fan bearing?

Also, Asus offering you one thing for your second perfectly good card, but then offering you less once they have it is a bait and switch tactic and illegal. They obviously do have 980s in stock as they're a current model, so I don't know what they're playing at here, just trashing their reputation further.

The bad thing is, I love some of the engineering concepts ASUS puts out. It seems like if you never have to deal with the RMA department, they have some of the best stuff around. But, once you have to deal with the RMA department, it seems all hell breaks lose and I just don't want to go there for that reason alone.

I have had 2 experiences with Asus RMA and both were very poor. The OP's experience is not to dissimilar to how mine were.

I am sorry to hear about your situation, that really sucks, I would hound them for a 980 like they said. I RMA my R9 290 reference and received a NIB R9 290 DCII in less than a week, including shipping both ways, but I do live around 2 hours from the service center :)

Pegatron, that's a bad word, had a lot of those motherboards with issues in HP computers.

I know from experience as well that ASUS RMA is total and utter trash these days, and it has certainly been better in the past.

Gigabyte, MSI are leading now, on every front; quality, parts used, RMA processing. People really have to let go of the old idea about Asus and its quality standards, it's really old news while the products still carry a price premium.

Asus is too busy with all sorts of shiny flashy branding. They have TUF, RoG, Sabertooth and whatnot, while a regular Gaming board from either other company does precisely the same while keeping it simple.

MSI motherboards at least on the AMD side still suck for VRM IMO. I have also gone through quite a few GB boards for similar VRM issues both AMD and Intel. Fuck Asrock. I have had issues with Asus, but typically they are me related I will keep giving them a shot until they prove me wrong.

As for RMA my name is on a special list last time I checked when I call in the transfer me to an actual tech not the India group. Turns out when you RMA 10+790GX and 790FX boards in a period of 8 months they want to know what's going on.

ASUS main issue with RMA is they use a company called Pegatron Group. I RMAd a r4E years ago and they kept sending me gimp boards, three of them in a row.

Pegatron, that's a bad word, had a lot of those motherboards with issues in HP computers.

Given how much stuff Pegatron makes the statistics are probably in their favour.

Guys...



Pegatron was ASUS's OEM arm for 3rd party computers. They apparently spun them off in 2010.

That doesn't mean they are held to the same standards as asus's consumer line. I knew was a spinoff from Asus.
