The ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Hero is the first motherboard using AMD's new X870 Ryzen 9000 chipset that we're testing. You now get support for USB4, Wi-Fi 7 and five M.2 slots, of which three are Gen 5. Our VRM testing with the Ryzen 9 9950X confirms that ASUS did a great job engineering a good cooling solution.

BIOS much the same as previous generation
I don't quite understand why this is listed under "Cons". I would say that it's better to keep the BIOS as is than change it for the sake of change, so if you owned an ASUS Board before you feel right at home without having to learn everything anew.

Are personal preferences now a valid reason to put something into the "Con" list?
Dual LAN ports excessive, would rather have a single 10 Gbps LAN

And i don't know if I missed something but what the heck is meant with that:
Lacks pizzazz compared to what we've seen of the competition so far
Couldn't find anything about it searching the entire review...

Considering that is not part of any common standards, why would you expect that?
So far, case compatibility is extremely limited for those kind of boards.

For all the wrongs that Shitsus does, they certainly are willing to add interesting feature on their boards, love that they are offering miniSAS port though would have liked to seen 1x and 4x PCIe slot in addition to that miniSAS connector but at expense of 1 or 2 less M.w slots.

Edit: Had to check and it seems like the ProArt board is much better deal at lower cost in terms of PCIe slot layout plus 10Gbps built-in NIC.

I am shocked everyone else has their motherboards for sale today, but according to Newegg and Microcenter. The Asus ITX board is not for sale.

I like the additional backplate cover

10Gbps with 2.5 Gbps LAN is quite common at the high end boards
E.G. ProArt X670E-CREATOR WIFI
https://www.asus.com/us/motherboard...ds/proart/proart-x670e-creator-wifi/techspec/

Do they USB 4 connectors not support Displayport Monitor outputs? like the ProArt X670E-CREATOR WIFI
The IO shield shows the DP symbol so I would imagine so.

Went and dug up the manual. Both USB4 connectors on the back IO support 4K60Hz

Yeh, good cons. Especially the high price one. My god... but yea, its Asus and a new motherboard. They always overprice things here too.

Sure, it’s expensive, but it also has everything and the kitchen sink, more than what any normal-ish user will ever require in daily PC usage. I wouldn’t buy it even at half the price, to be honest, simply because the feature list is overkill. But hey, cool board overall. Can… can we get back the mATX Maximus line back now, Asus? No? Okay.

There aren't many changes in terms of what X870 brings compared to X670, with greater I/O bandwidth and wider PCIe Gen 5 support being the main takeaways.
It should been called X670S :D
The board is nice btw

A $700 mainboard should have DUAL 10Gbps ethernet. It's damn near 2025.

Apex is for Intel Boards.

Only because so far, only Intel CPUs managed to clock memory high. AMD can do that too now, and the Gene is more of a micro ATX form factor solution than a proper extreme overclocking motherboard like the Apex.

A $700 mainboard should have DUAL 10Gbps ethernet. It's damn near 2025.

Depends on the segment targeted, on this one, I actually agree, at least one 10Gb and 5Gb port. On the ROG Apex a 2.5G or even a simple Gigabit NIC ought to do, while I expect dual 10Gb on the Formula and Extreme at this point.

honest question, why? wouldnt it be better if the board was $20 cheaper, and the the 0.1% that need a second port can buy a $10 5G USB adapter?
