Afaik Matrix is something of the past (got replaced by Strixx and the other high end models), it was based on 1st/2nd gen DCU II and got ditched along with them.
I kinda liked matrix cards...

Strix /= Matrix... two different classes of cards from ASUS. The strix and dcu x cards are similar in the product stack, however. But its not remotely feature laden like the matrix for 'extreme' overclocking.

LOL, Asia... i think you can edit your title.. ;)

Done.. no more Asia ROG LOL XD

What I wanna know is ( will Asus make matrix version 1080 ti ? I like to pair a matrix card and a mid tier card together for sli ) because when my graphics card retire I put them on a shelf for display so it's better if I get 2 different 1080tis .

I didn't say the Strixx is the Matrix, I did say it got replaced by it and other models - you should better read stuff before you reply smartass answers. ;)

Yeah that's why I'm worried ... maybe Asus is saving matrix for the TIs only ...maybe I should wait few weeks more
By then they may announce a water cooled version. It wouldn't surprise me.

I used to have a ASUS Matrix Platinum GTX 980 Ti. Beast of a card and great OC'er.

Well then I have to say no, actually it got definitely replaced by those newer cards. Again, there's no new Matrix, so they are indeed its replacement. De facto the DCU III models like Strixx are its replacement, because they offer the same features or more just with a different naming. What's left? Maybe the extreme package and shit Matrix had along the way, but that's hardly a significant difference if you ask me.

There won't be another Matrix, I'm pretty sure. The 1070/1080 line went without any Matrix released for over a year now, so it's very unlikely the 1080 Ti will suddenly get one. If you want a top notch Asus card, go for the Strixx or Poseidon.

okay..... no more matrix :sad face:

I already got strix .. so now I go for Aorus from gigabyte or FTW 3 from EVGA ? Those two are the options left after matrix ..

Had to make an account to comment. Do not get your hopes down, the Matrix is not an every generation card and historically has come out around 4 months after reference or founders edition cards with massive day one competition to get one (i waited 6mo after 980 launch for my Matrix plat to finally come). A very large potential reason behind the 1080 (being the first generation in years) to not get a Matrix release was due to it being a short cycle. People actually predicted the short cycle of the 1080-1080ti due to a Matrix not coming out (coincidence or not it happened). The Matrix has not been replaced... it is the highest power phase GPU that ASUS creates (Massively popular LN2 card for OC nuts as well) and is the top tier Enthusiast card of their brand. To repeat myself, the Matrix is not an every generation card, with the MSI Lightning (confirmed) and EVGA Kingpin (hinted at) both likely releasing soon, id expect a tease of the Matrix mid to late May (This is the historic window). The ROG Poseidon is also a good indication that a Matrix is happening. Saying the Matrix was replaced by the strix is like saying the strix mobo lineup replaced the Rampage and Rampage extreme mobo lineup... This isnt intended to be snarky, just clarifying misinformation that is so strongly yet incorrectly asserted considering that this thread is a top google hit on the 1080ti Matrix Plat.

Be patient if you really want one (I doubt you get more than 4% over a Strix out of box though)... we are getting close to that historic window of teasing. Expect a social media image that makes you drool soon. Remember there was no 1080 Poseidon either, weve got a 1080 TI though.

To clarify the Matrix is an XX80 or XX80 TI card.

Not only for the highest end cards of the gen. And we will see if it will be released or not. For now it seems unlikely to me.

One more thing: maybe Matrix got ditched, because Pascal has limited overclocking abilities anyway, and the Strixx is easily enough for that too (easily as in: with whatever cooling you throw at it). Pascal is not the same as Maxwell or previous architectures.

Part of the point of the Matrix cards (or cards of that level) was to have features on it which bypass those limitations from NVIDIA. Higher binned ASICs, etc. But, they can't do that anymore, really.

Yep, that's kinda what I meant. Pascal is too "closed down", a Matrix card is simply not worth it I guess and the Strixx has extreme overclocking features as well. The Matrix was also based on old DCU II designs, that are not used anymore. That's why I'm so sure. Strixx is next gen cooling & PCB.

DCU x is the cooler... nothing is based off the cooler. Cards under it had better pcb/vrm, true, but the matrix was another level above those, as it would be with the strix. ;)

I equate the strix to the direct cu cards.

I like ASUS GTX1080Ti Poseidon, but if they really used aluminimum for watercooling parts that's amateur mistakes because all best radiators are copper-brass.
Than people will have copper-acetal+nickel and aluminum in loop, bimetal corrosion for less than 6 months.
Who decide about such things and how I don't know... Still maybe they didn't used aluminium, maybe only prototype is finished and retail version will be compatible with copper radiators.

Because Poseidon is best in combination with Formula motherboard and EKWB Predator or new EKWB MLC when they launch, that's cheaper variant of watercooling but effective.
