ASUS ROG Strix 850W vs ASUS ROG Thor-850P or alternative?

As title says, is it worth to add extra 50eur(~55usd) to thor psu? I need something to power 3800x + 3 polaris cards and my current corsair hx850W (CP-9020138-EU) platinum kinda failed as one of cables got a smoke trails on it, plastic on this cable is slightly burnt but still works and powers pc. I want to replace this psu asap for safety reasons and i'm sending it to rma right after i purchase replacement for it. Would you recommend something else instead of these asus PSUs? Rog strix is 140EUR (160usd) and Thor is 205EUR (230usd).

Basically i need something to power 3800x (PBO) paired with 3 polaris cards and i'm willing to spend up to 210eur/240usd if quality is worth it and i aim for quality. Price/performance balance is always welcome.

I had the thor 850 it looks great with the wattage showing in your case provided you case has a cut out so its on display. If you dont then dont bther spending the extra cash

They’re both built on the seasonic focus platform but with better heatsinks and fans. I personally wouldn’t pay the ASUS tax but both are solid.

I’d be more worried about the wattage. You may need more headroom depending on what Polaris cards you’re using.

Phanteks Revolt Pro / X also have 12 years, most likely same platform from Seasonic. Have occasionally seen them for cheaper so worth mentioning. Unbelievably long warranties, I love 'em!

As mentioned by others, dont pay the rog tax, just buy the seasonic focus gx 850w, its the same psu anway

On your last note, if You want a better psu then get the corsair RMx 2021, it uses a better platform and fan than the seasonic and supports all the latest standerds like faster wake from sleep time, it also comes with 10 year warrenty so no worries

One thing is funny, thor psu is cheaper than seasonic it is based on and has 10 years of warranty which is just 2 years less, i never had a single psu for longer than 10 years.

As for power consumption 3800x+3x polaris cards all on full load take around 500W so 850W is more than enough.

I would only get the SeaSonic is my case doesnt have a PSU window. I myself have not owned a PSU for over 3 years. The Thor has how many Watts you are pulling on display so i going to buy another one for my next build. I do like those Titanium rated from Seasonic. They are both base on SeaSonic so its ll good either way

The Asus PSUs at microcenter cost more than the Seasonic's so it was an obvious choice here

I dunno but, according to TPU’s reviews, 580’s can pull 200W+ each on load, 3800x @ 150W, 750W conservative (900W max) is cutting it close, but 90% efficiency is where it’s at I guess.

I don’t mean to tell you, because idk, just going off of TPU’s numbers.
