I hope someone at ASUS will move their fat butt and do something, otherwise i might just as well throw their crap card out of my room. Through the window. Closed one.
It was all fine when i bought it. Few games crashed with GX mode enabled but i could live with that. Life was good and i had very good sound. Few days ago i bought new graphic card, a spankin' new HD5850. Installed it and wow, what a speed. Until i got a BSOD. And another one after the last one when PC was trying to boot. What the hell!? I thought it's the heat issue, retested everything, everything perfectly normal. Left open case and while playing UT3, bam, BSOD again. What the f**k!? And another one during World Racing. And another during Defense Grid. What the!? Then i thought it's something wrong with the graphic card. But then i thought, if it was a gfx card, i'd have GPU recovery error's as usual. And then after it BSOD-ed in Foobar2k, soundcard popped into my mind. Removed Essence STX and used on-board ADI AD2000 chip.
No more BSOD's at all. Played UT3 for ages, played World Racing, all well. Installed Xonar Essence STX and got all sorts of BSOD's again. For ntfs.sys, for netio.sys even for ecache.sys.
It was just killing my system randomly. Tried PCIe 16x and PCIe 4x slots. Same crap.
It appears their (ASUS) product doesn't work properly on their own motherboard (Rampage II Gene). I'm using the latest Gene BIOS 1202 or whatever it is with GX mode enabled.
And all this started when i installed MSI HD5850 OC Edition into the box. This has to be the worst system crashing i've ever encountered. And it has been bothering me for 3 days before i figured it out today. F**k me.
Some say Creative has loads of problems and awful drivers. The fact is, i never had a single issue with any Creative Labs soundcard. But with this ASUS one, apart from great sound (when it works) it's just terrible. If ASUS doesn't fix this damn GX mode once and for all, i'll be yet again forced to go back to Creative. I'd rather place ALchemy files on my own in games folder than such generic crap like GX killing all my games (and system) just because it's half baked.
I love ASUS products, but this is just plain ridiculous. When will they get it that superior hardware is worth exactly nothing if it's software side is rubbish. It works on Win7 x64, but is a complete disaster on Vista x64. Just because someone is too lazy to do the drivers right...
