at 80°C games crash

hi guys ,with ambient temps of 25°c my 6950 oc when i playing a game like trine 2 at 80°C the game frozen ,my actual case dont have good airflow but i have thinking about,if i try to change the thermal paste on the gpu? and idle the temp is 45 to 48 give me advice thanks xd

i have my fans on 50% fulltime for 6950s at seem to get max temp of 72

As I said get a can of compressed air and clean the card. Raise the fan speed with Afterburner when temps go above 70C. And maybe use vsync with that particular game.

Changing the Thermal Paste is never a bad idea. I always change mine when I get a new card.

But yeah like Crap Daddy said turn up the fans and make sure it's dust free.

V-synch is another good suggestion to keep heat under control. A card pumping out 200fps when only on a 60hz monitor is working overtime for a lot of wasted frames not to mention tearing and generating alot of heat for nothing.

Improving air flow in your case could help alot too.

Set the speeds in catalyst if you dont have afterburner... Try gaming with side panel off too...

thanks guys for the advice, the fans are at 100% and i try to have the case open but the temps when reach 80°C block the game , on trine 2 i have vsync on , but is strange is not a persisten problem ,this problems the first time comes out when the card whas oc at 950mhz on core and voltage at 1.170 or 1.188 , i have set at 1.100 more times ago and lower core to 900 and this problem gone ,now comes out again, i try to downclock , but for the case i dont have the money for the case i chose xd the fractal design arc midi if i have it this problem go away with 3 fans blow air on the card,my model is that http://xfxforce.com/en-us/Products/...0-Series/AMD-Radeon-HD-6950/HD-695X-ZDDC.aspx

Opening the case will not necessarily help at all. Cases are designed with a certain air pattern through the case to aid in cooling (cool air in, hot air out), so taking off panels can sometimes make cooling less effective.

If you take off the side panel and set a fan next to the case blowing in, that would make a difference as you will get air turbulence from the fan to exhaust the air.

Will it be enough to cool the GC? You don't know until you try it.

EDIT: He asked how to fix the problem with his computer... Not that he should buy a new case... Its like some dude takes his car in to get fixed and the mechanic was like i dont like your car just buy another....

Tried downclocking the VRAM? The core should be perfectly fine at 80C and up. My 6850s core runs 105C most of the time when I'm heavily gaming, the 6850 isn't a good card to run passive. lol

I seen that its OCed have you tried to back down the clocks and test?

when i set the clock at default for this model , 830 core and memory at 1300 i dont have this problem,but is strange that a 80°C frozen ,most videocards go at 100°c .

Thats true...so like erocker said look at other things too like VRM temps. GPU-Z should be able to show you under Sensors tab.

Why do you let ur hardware run so hot, and in chassis with poor circulation

its the memory...just back off the oc on the mem... its not the gpu....good luck
