Recording in fraps will kill your FPS, no matter what you do.

I have a customer who thought it would help if he bought a bigger card and a bigger chip....
Now he has a 4870x2 running 1680x1050 MS Flight Sim X and can't record on fraps with his settings turned up without getting some frame rates that are not acceptable, I should also note he is running Raid 0+1 on 4 WD Black 1TB *so drive speed isn't the problem*, he has 8gb of ram *not he problem* and a Phenom 2 quad @ 4.4*ghz so..

Don't try to record while playing seriously, just doesn't work very well.

Absolutely, money would be better spent investing in a high quality camera to record the footage in HD

It does seem odd that it disappears when using XP but returns when you install Win. I assume that you've updated your chipset drivers that specifically state they are for win7?

Some people on the other forum think that it's my "cheep" psu?

What is the amperage rating on your PSU?

As it could well be the 4890 isn't getting the juice it needs.

( Windows seven whilst more efficient then vista does use more resources then xp so it could be its draining just that little bit extra pushing it over edge)

May I recommend setting up an xp partition on your harddrive so you can try XP and see if the problems persist or fix up right away.

That way at least you don't have the kerfuffle of reinstalling win seven if the OS is not the problem.

OP does aero seem to be slow minimizing and maximizing? Like a second or two to minimize and maximize? I've had this issue and just switched the drivers I'm using. I'd recommend running driver sweeper clearing out all the old video drivers and trying one by one til the problem is fixed. It happens on my GTX260 my friends 9800gt as well as the rig I just built for a friend with two 5850's. More than likely not associated with a hardware issue.

Panther I haven't seen a video card slow down because it's not getting enough power. They don't clock down in situations like that they usually just restart the system if the pull is too much for the power supply.

I have, modern cards seem to try and work with what they have. how ever its more likely to blow your psu up if its under 100% load when ever you play games.

Had a 4870 1gb that was stuttering a fair bit and it was due to the crappy EZcool 700w psu I had.

( which actually turned out to only be 500w and they were really pushing it to its limits, air coming out the back was around 45c)

Also OP be more patient, not everyone is reading your thread, lots of other stuff to read here after all : ]

Well then its nothing to do with the graphics card/operating system interaction if youtube is doing it as well.*

I've still no certain idea but it will help someone else isolate the problem : ]

If you come across anything else be sure to mention it.

What happens if you drag around a window, does the animation look stuttery too?

* not 100% confident but to me it sounds like something else is causing problem.

no. But as for the movies, stutter happens much, much less frequently than in the games.

By the by have you tried adjusting the ram voltage to its required settings yet?

yeah i set it (in BIOS) to 1,7v but in cpu-z spd tap shows that mem is still running at 1,5v?

CPU-z doesn't report ram voltages it seems, just ran it myself and my voltages are reported as stock rather then the actual setting. ( so it probably is running at full speed)

This problem is confusing that is for sure.

I'm not sure if my computer crashed as I was writing a message about windows seven power options earlier, did I post anything about that?

some guy wrote this for my memory ...but i dont understand a thing :(

I HAVE BOUGHT 3 PAIRS OF THESE - 2 OF THEM I USED & 1 FOR TESTING!!!!
Every Motherboard that i have put these in and tested the 1600mhz operation has had these workin phenominal @ 1600mhz setting with the listed 9-9-9-27 @ 1.75v!!!! They come up on AM3 Mobo's as 1333mhz, but you gointo BIOS and Change FSB:DRAM to 1:4 or the 1600mhz and adjust timings if needed and restart.....BOOM 1600mhz blazin fast....RATE 7.3 in Win7 @ 1600!!!!! Have put them into ASUS M4A79T Deluxe & M4A79XTD-EVO, MSI 790XGD70 & NF980GD65, 2 many 2 list and all workd without errors/BSOD's once setup properly!!!! Even though a few Mobo's say they need the 1.5v, these worked in them as well!!
Remember that DDR3 is DualDataRate 3rd Generation, your MoBo will list them as 800mhz chips when they effectively run at 1600mhz!!!! AMD runs on the 200mhz FSB....that where the 200 FSB and 800 DRAM come into play with the 1:4 setting on most MoBo's - some have a simple 800-1066-1200-1600, but not usually!!
