ATI Catalyst 10.8 Drivers Coming This Afternoon

talking about Borked textures take a look at a screenie I just did in Unigen Heaven 2.1




and it's only the textures that are flat cobble stone all the other textures are fine

In 10.7 (or was it 10.6?) Dragon Age crashed a lot. After I upgraded to 10.8, the screen occassionally goes black for a second or less (it has done it 3 times so far) but the game doesn't crash. The drivers were the only thing I changed. I got very similar crashes in Mafia II and Worms Reloaded as well but haven't played them enough to check if the crashes stop. 10.8 appears to be a big step up in terms of stability.

It would seem these are stable for some yet total crap for others,

for me they are total crap not only do they have borked textures I also have borked scaling where i need to enter CCC and untick or tick enable gpu scaling to get my desktop back to full screen 1920x1080,

they also have compatibility issues with some older OpenGL games (ie: Quake 3)

so for me the last few months of catalyst releases have been a real hit and miss affair aren't newer versions supposed to better than the previous versions with problems fixed not new ones introduced

@MailMan, try installing the crossfirex profiles from older version's 10.4 > 10.8, that sorted my flicker

Still getting CTD on BFBC2 here. Single Player and Multiplayer. Spent 4 hours testing the claims on [H] for performance boosts, and looking at AA performance. 6 CTD in that time.

Been there, done that. I wish it was so simple...no big deal for me to replace parts. Everything has a warranty.

System #1 is overclocked, 3.6ghz, 1600mhz mem, 2400 NB. 965BE.(all with less than stock volts, 1.35v cpu, 1.25v NB, 1.65v mem)

System #2 is stock, 3.4ghz, 1066 mem, 2000NB. 965BE. Both are Crosshair3 motherboards.

whatever stability test you'd like me to run, I can, and for any length of time. It's not like the overclocked system has a large overclock...

I offered to send my systems to AMD for them to test, even. If it IS hardware problems, then I need to RMA.

I bought the complete second system to confirm/deny stability issues. All issue that were present on the older, overclocked system, are present on the new, never overclocked, stock system.


Also, systems work fine(other than CTD in BFBC2) in single-monitor mode, but all problems are contained within Eyefinity configs.


I think I might go and buy a new PSU today, and add that to the mix as well. It's very odd.


I have a long laundry list here for AMD, and nothing but time to test these sorts of things. Post up some suggestions for stability testing, Mussels, and I'll post results, so we can eliminate that as a factor.

Just an update, I ended up going back to 10.5 hotfix.... So far its the only driver Ive seen the most FPS from in BC2, ever since 10.7 it all went downhill.... even with the CFX profiles, no gains just worst and for some reason with 10.7/10.8 I would get some nasty dips in certain parts of the SP/MP maps, with 10.5 HF I never see these dips, and thats without and CFX profiles.....

As for Mafia II CFX profile updates Pff, little gains from 10.7, again 10.5 HF is the best hands down right now, I mean don't get me wrong, I would use 10.8 for the few games it fixed, but overall I don't play but one game on the "fixed" list which would be SC2.

All I can do is hope for a Universal driver or a Hybrid of 10.5 HF and 10.8 combined.
