What VGA card do you have?

I don't have any problem with all catalyst version from 6.7...6.10. For safety reason, I always use DriverCleaner before installing new driver.

Check with sapphire for the best driver they recommend. The latest driver is not always the best as it might have a bug(s) on it.

Search the I-Net for an updated Monitor Driver for your Model Monitor. I had to do that with my Monitor model Xerox D710, (ATI drivers do not support my monitor model either). Once you load the monitor driver into hardware manager save a copy of the driver to HDD and backup with CD/DVD rom. Be patient, it took me three weeks to find my monitor driver; Xerox monitor components are made by three or four different companys!!
