It's been almost two years since i've built my computer (haven't touched it since), i remembered having the same problem with smartgart and setting my graphic card to agp 8x (its not using agp at all), and that was with the 9600 XT, but i forgot how i fixed it.

I recently bought a x1600 512 pro and i'm having the same problem, i tried looking a few drivers for my mobo (nothing came up) and even gettin omega drivers in (i think thats what fixed it with my 9600 xt), but they were problematic and i ended up back with original catalyst drivers.

My motherboard is a p4p800SE (edit, sry)

Some specs if anyone is curious:

3.2 ghz p4e 1mb l2 cache 800 mhz fsb
3 gb of ddr400 corsair ram
7200 rpm 120 gb sata hd from WD
420 w psu

I tried going into bios settings and the only things i found relating to agp bus was the graphics bus priority and graphics aperture :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated, i'm really frustrated at this point, if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

I have a x1600 pro here on my old system my new system spit it out. the cat drivers from Ati dont work or its just not going into 8x agp?
have you updated the bios on that mother board? also bring it back to its defualts I had one mother board that would not take and run an agp board faster than 2x till I restored it to defualt's though I had never changed them
