Hello there

I look at my new ATI X1900 XT temperatures and find the GPU go over 88  Celcius runing FEAR without vsync for about 5 minutes, is this a very hot or it is normal..?

The card is running at stock 625/725 clocks in a room with 18 C temperature.

Please help me know if this correct or it is something wrong with my CARD, btw i found this card has the Samsung 1.1 mem so if the temperatures are OK I will flash to XTX lated today and maybe overclock it.

Thanks for all your comments

Sincerely ....Freemane

Hey,
Did you mean 88F or 88C.
BC 88C is way too high for any computer part. Your going to fry your GPU if it is Celsius.
Something is wrong with the fan or the card in that case.
Did you try to do anything to the card yet?

My x850 PRO went to 72*C in stock form, so with something that powerful, it might be alright. I used the Omega drivers to change when the fan comes on 100%, it now come on 100% at 55*C. It never goes over 62*C now. According to my Geforce FX5900, the core slowdown threshold is 145*C, so I think the X1900 can go that high without issues.

Thanks for the comments,

Looking around I find this review:

I read at GAMEPC a review x1900 that said in there conclusions page:
"The R580 GPU still runs amazingly hot however, hitting temperatures of up to 88°C during intensive testing":twitch:

Those who have the X1900 can help me to confirm if this is true...?, please run FEAR selftest without vsync and ATI Control temperature behind the game so you can read the temperature just after exiting the game.
Note: Do it as fast you can, bcz the temperature go down very fast and maybe you see only 82 Celsius, but the real peak is 88 Celsius. :D

Thanks for all your help in this matter :)

Sincerely

That is ridiculously hot. They should at least put a copper heatsink and a bigger fan....It is important..is it not?

When I first got my X1900XT I put the Overdrive panel in my second monitor and booted up 3dmark06 on the primary monitor. I nearly had a heart attack once the GPU core temperature reached 80 deg C and I immediately killed 3dmark06. After taking a look at the stock fan config in ATi Tool I saw that the X1900XT's fan speed was only set to ramp up after 80 deg C   .

I use ATi Tool now to control fan speeds. I use three different profiles (with hotkeys enabled) for clocking the card to replicate ATi's auto 2d downclocking. I have also replaced the stock thermal junk on the core with some AS5.

Profiles:
Cool & Quiet: 300MHz /600MHz 1.0v
Full Speed Stage 1: 300MHz /600MHz 1.3v (this is becuase the ATi cards(or ATi tool) don't like having the voltage AND clock speed changed at the same time.
Full Speed Stage 2: 625MHz /725MHz 1.3v

Results with AS5 switch: (running the 3dmark06 demo @1280x960 w/8xAF)
Stock: 70.6 deg C 64% Fan speed.
w/AS5: 68.1 deg C 55% Fan speed.
w/AS5: 64.8 deg C 64% Fan speed.

Idle in C&Q mode wo/AS: 44deg C
Idle in C&Q mode w/AS5: 42deg C

Hello there

Yes it is very HOT, that why I need to be shure if this is right before I overclock this hot baby.;)

Please send me your feelings about 88C in FEAR...!!,
I will try to play 20 minutes without vsync in 1280x960 4aa 8 aniso, and see more about temperatures.:wtf:

I run 30 minutes on FEAR without any issue, when exit the temperature goes into 82 Celsius, maybe its OK.;)
Thanks in advance for all your comments
