Hi everyone, ive currently got my gcard bios modded to the X800XT PE (get 6200 points in 3dmark 06) and although im happy with it i was wondering if its possible to unlock more pipes than 16.. reason i asked is my brothers 6800LE has had 4 extra pipes added and the performance boost is unreal (did unlock 8 extra pipes but unfortunately got artifacts).. is it poss with my card or am i just bieng greedy

there are no more pipes on any ATI card. 16 is the limit. Yes, you are being greedy.

X800XT PE (get 6200 points in 3dmark 06)
Somehow I beleive you meant 6200p in 3DM05, not 06. ;)

I haven't even hit that much in 06 yet, so far my best is a little over 5300. Still a nice score and a great card.

not bad... I get about 2100 with an X800 XL o/c'd to 439/538 w/ enhanced memory timings. The thing holding ATI X8xx cards is the lacking of SM3.0 but in reality, X8xx cards are better than most nVidia's that score higher than us. It's the SM3.0 that gives nVidia 6800 cards higher scores than ATI X8xx cards, but ATI X8xx cards perform the same or better.

Well you could say its HDR but there is more to it. Check out this guide on bit-tech:
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2005/07/25/guide_to_shaders/1.html

The comparison of the amount of instructions a shader can handle is here:
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2005/07/25/guide_to_shaders/5.html

Here you see that shader model 3 offers a higher complicated way to program the shaders.(More difficult programming lines like "if and or", if you have ever programmed youll know)

Pretty hard to explain everything but I think that bit-tech has a good and not to complicated article :D

Nice one Jug, you learn something new everyday :)

Now i understand why when me and my bro do cs:s stress tests, i get a block of reflective squares whereas he gets a block of moving water

Can you send me a copy of that mod?? :) What are your clocks on that card? Do they change with a different bios? I get 6500 with my x800xt at 550/550.
