Audio pops and stutters on my 5600x with msi mag b550 bazooka.

Hello everyone, i built this pc that you can see in my system specs and i have always had weird audio pops and stutters when loading benchmarks or heavy programs for the first time.

I have all my chipset, gpu, audio and ethernet drivers up to date. Windows is up to date, tried various updated bioses from 1.2.0.3 to 1.2.0.5 to 1.2.0.6 and problems persists on all of them.

The problem was happening way more often on windows 10, but also happens on windows 11.

I checked the latency of the computer using latencymon and the audio crackling, stutters happen simultaneously when the latencies go up roughly 1000-1500 ms.

Average latency was 5 to 30 ms but goes up to 1000-1500 ms during the problem.

My bios settings are stock only the XMP is enabled.

After reading up online people say it is a stability issue with the msi b550 boards, and they suggest increasing vddg, IOD or VDDP voltages. I am really frustrated and sad.

Please help me troubleshoot whats going on.

Does this happen because im using a higher ram frequency than supported 3200 mhz on AMD website for 5600x, and either the cpu or the mobo cant keep up ?

I am on the verge of dumping this motherboard and getting a new one, and if i should which one would you recommend i should go for ?

What is the BIOS version? Do you use an onboard soundcard? Do you hear sounds of the PC through a bluetooth device?

My sound hiccups I had for some months were coming from my bluetooth which in the balanced power profile was on eco mode and didn't have constant signal. Once I made it run on full speed, those problems vanished for good.

Try with 3200MHz RAM though I doubt that it's the culpript, I have no problems running my 3200 sticks at 3466.

Ryzen 5000 doesn't have it.

Use the latency mon and see what driver exactly causes the hiccup. Show a screenshot.

Too high RAM speeds can cause this issue on some of the cheaper boards - simply try 3200 and find out?


Are you running a PCI-E riser?
Try dropping to PCI-E gen 3

Ive heard that TPM can cause similar issue, try disabling it in bios and see if it helps

Disable Spread Spectrum in the BIOS(not needed anyway) not heard it effect onboard but it absolutely screws up internal* sound cards…

Try setting the soc voltage to 1.1 if it isn't running that already and manually set your rams voltage to what is printed on the ram itself and set the vref for the boosted voltage, your mobo will boost eg 1.35v to 1.37v so you need to adjust for that by adding 10mv per channel for dual ram sticks which for 1.35v is 0.685v vref instead of 0.675.

The issue could also be with unstable infinity fabric, if you're running your ram at 3200mhz 1:1 your fclk should be 1600mhz which should be completely stable but if you go higher eg 1900 fclk or higher audio issues is a symptom of instability.

I'm running my 5600x @ 1.2v manual 4.65ghz all core and ram @ 3666mhz and 1833mhz fclk and have no audio issues during downloads or stressing.

Can be too high SoC voltage, as above try 1.1v or lower.

Also, did you carry over your windows installation from an Intel system? If so, reinstall fresh on the ryzen system.

I had all kinds of troubles with the 3600x popping audio during downloads regardless of whether I used mobo audio or dac which is weird. Tried a bunch of things to get rid of it but with the 3600x I was using manual voltages for vddp etc. with the 5600x I just left everything but cpu voltage on auto and haven't had the normal pops during downloads or stressing.

I have pops and crackles that are possibly related to the Windows Audio service. My audio is stellar with YouTube, but Windows 10 notifications, has inconsistent audio quality, often starts with a crack or a pop!

It doesn't seem to be OC-related and that's unlikely with Fclk at 1600.

It's nothing like the problem I have with my SoundBlaster ZXR on the Gigabyte GA-F2A88X-D3HP motherboard, where every sound played, has a crack!

Standard Realtek motherboard drivers aren't great, have you tried the official Realtek ones for your audio chip or some of the unofficial modded ones? I'm running unnofficials which gives me the old style audio manager which is way better than the official ones that wanted to install the horrible Windows store app that didn't work. You may need to use DDU to uninstall them, disable automatic driver installs and disconnect from the internet to stop Windows installing default drivers in the background.

I have custom ones, because some stuff was missing that was supposed to be there. The others I tried, are BS!

I get the best audio quality out of what I have now. It's just a problem that I can confirm with Windows 10 notifications, so far.

Same here, why I use the custom ones also, I mean if you're happy with your motherboard aside the audio issues, you could always buy a dedicated sound card instead of a new motherboard which may come with it's own issues and be more expensive

I thought about getting a brand new SoundBlaster, but I'm focused on attempting a video card upgrade. I plan to go to a Micro Center for the first time! The availability, already looks much better than 1 year ago! Even if the prices are likely still higher than normal.

Hey everyone, my issue seems to be gone after the latest bios update 1.2.0.6b. I will be replying here if the issue happens again.

Regarding the advices telling me to lower ram speed, i recall trying using slower ram speed on the other bioses and the issue still happened when i disable XMP and ran the rams on 2133 MHZ.

Latencymon always reported wdf01000 as the highest latency driver.

I am not using pci-e riser and its on auto which is pci-e gen 3 for rx 580.

I am %99 sure its a motherboard problem.

I also saw system interrupts process taking about %1-2 of cpu usage during idle, not sure if thats normal behaviour.

Saw this quote on reddit. "System interrupts is entirely a hardware thing. It's not even a real process, the only reason it shows up in task manager is for it to report how much the CPU is getting "interrupted" by hardware interrupt requests. My best guess is that you have some kind of hardware plugged in that has gone haywire".

Could also be an incompatiblity in my system caused by the older rx 580, because i remember when i uninstalled the gpu drivers the issue stopped.

I was running cortex and everytime it boosted and thereafter, critical realtek and modded drivers processes would change their cpu affinity to cores 0 and 1. It caused serious stutter and slow game performance. Wouldnt hurt to check cpu affinity on those audio processes.
