I just enabled a custom plugin that _should_ automatically merge double posts into one.

Please report here if any issues.

As Per the Rules and for things like the Buy/sell thread one does not want it to auto merge as that makes OP bumping of thread useless
Certin other threads maintained in the Science thread are also updated by Contributors sometimes more than once a day

But not next to each other in terms of timestamp? As for Bumps, they can't bump inside of 24 hours so it shouldn't affect them.

i suspect that this plugin is going to prove to be a glorious one that is going to mitigate a lot of headaches.

I post the pie results for the WCG team everyday. Will this end up merging posts if I happen to be 1 minute under 24 hours? Or if I wait to post the previous day's results in the morning and then post today's results in the evening, they'll be merged? I can see "dummy" posts being used to prevent this.
24 hours is way too long. If I'm troubleshooting a problem, how am I to notify the other people in the thread that I've added a response? (I'm assuming that this eliminates the alert notification)

good point. the time limit has been changed to 20 hours

I'm thinking it should be more like 20 minutes, but I'm not a mod. I don't know what they see. 20 hours would still merge a morning and evening post together. How about 2 hours?

Not 100% sure about all the details, but it should act as if a normal reply was made. Only after that will it take the text from the new post, append it to the previous post, and soft delete the new post.

There should be a note saying if posts have been merged. ( like the edited post one)

I don't see what all the hub-bub is about. TPU TOS says do not multi-post. Reasons for such actions are then moot. While I get you "want" the forums to work a certain way, we should follow the guidelines set before us and not look for ways to work around them.

Sorry. I got an alert that you mentioned me in this thread and an e-mail that you replied to this thread. So I don't even see the double notification that the previous system would do - quotes and replies were separate alerts. But to test this as I think you're trying, I'd have to look at your post and then have you "double" post.

I tagged you for the alert I knew would happen, the second bit was me double posting while quoting your post above my original post. Hard to do that, but I get exactly the angle that you are on with it.

Testing to see if tbb gets another notification.
