awesome new memory..set up questions

i just got the gskill ddr2 1200 pc 9600 2X2gig memory and so far everything seems to work ok. I went to the bios to set it up and i couldnt get 1200mhz. it jumped from 1111 to 1333 when i was adjusting the memory multiplier. i have the gmch frequency latch on auto, so i could go through all the choices. So now i have it set to run at 1111. however....

in cpuz it shows things differently. its showing this:

dram freq 555 mhz

fsb:dram 3:5

5-6-6-16

iset the timings at 5--5-5-15 in the bios also.

on the spd screen its showing the memory as pc2 6400(400mhz).

i think i set it up wrong..just not sure what to do! pleeze help me and end my confusion.

555 is right. CPU-Z shows the true clock speed, as it is DDR2 (Dual Data Rate) it effectively runs at twice that, hence 1110 MHz

The SPD is usually programmed at safe values which all mobos can boot at, it relies on you to set it right.

If you want to run the ram at the full 1200 MHz, you need to adjust your FSB or equivalent up or down, to either make 1110 multiply to 1200, or 1333 multiply to 1200.

1111 is DDR rate which is 2 times memory bus rate of 555 which cpuz shows and is accurate

ok..good, at least im on the right track then. i have my cpu fsb at 400, dont really wanna jack with that too much more, i can live with 1111..kinda afraid of 1333, std settings show it as 1066(which i expected) so going the next notch up from 1111 might be too much of an overclock i think. so why does it show as pc2-6400 under the max bandwith?

Thats just CPU-Z reading the SPD chip. Like I say, so a mobo can auto detect and boot.

My 1000 mHz ram comes up as PC-6400 too in CPU-Z

Its just a fail safe feature, so people dont bitch and whine when the PC doesnt boot, cus its tried to do 1200 mHz on 1.8v and the stick needs 2.1v

You should be able to set the timings at 5-5-5-15 in the bios manually, if thats what the manufacturer says they support.

Just make sure you are using the right voltage too.

i did that..at least i thought i did that. and 1.8V is what these say they are rated at.

okay, so.... i reset my cpu to stock and then reset my memory to stock. then increased the cpu fsb back to 400 to give back my 3.6 ghz. i then reset the memory in the system memory multiplier (spd) to 3.00A. x.xxa = 266mhz fsb. B C and D are all different values. At this setting i got my 1200 mhz. Did i do this correctly? I also manually set my tinings to 5-5-5-15. Stupid me, thought i did it but sure enough was on auto when i opened up the bios!! i set my northbridge to 1.225 as well. does this all seem kosher? its workin so far.


also fsb:dram is now 2:3. i feel like im on the right track..just need some reinforcement from the geniuses!
