Bad flash on MSI RX 570 armor 4g

I am mining ZCash so I flashed Anoraks powersave rom (https://anorak.tech/t/msi-radeon-rx-570-armor-4g-oc/2889/16 see post 16) It caused the driver to go haywire. I can not run Claymore zcash v12.4 .

So I tried all of the steps from https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/amd-ati-flashing-guide.212849/

So after creating the bootable disk

Atiflash -i
adapter not found

Atiflash -unlockrom X
Format:Atiflash

Atiflash -i
adapter not found

What can I try next? I can boot win10 with the card but it changes to the basic video display. I can run gpu-z. I made a copy of the bad flash.

I also get adapter not found with the good cards too!
What am I doing wrong?

what do you mean by basic video ? Do you mean the generic video adapter reading that windows gives when it doesn't know the video card?

I know this is a useless reply but ...

Too tired of responding to these bad flash threads... Same story over and over. Nobody learns anything.

I have seen a high volume of these threads lately as well.
I think maybe the people who initiate the thread anticipates that every model card has a different procedure for a bois flash
and that the posts are made in the initial stages of "Holy crap I bricked the most expensive part!!" which is probably not the case for our friends mining card.
My advice would be to slow down...breath..deep breaths..use the forum search.... fix the card.
If you cant repair the card use your first post to explain the steps you attempted to rectify the issue AS WELL AS whatever numbskull "it seemed like a great idea" thing it was you were trying to do.
But yeah...forum search.

1. How did you flash it before if you can't figure out how to flash it now? :wtf:
2. The atiflash -i command is unnecessary. And specifically...THAT's what you're doing wrong. Well...that and the atiflash -unlockrom X command. Which is also unnecessary(and wrong too if you used X instead of 0, or the adapter number for your card, which is most likely to be 0). Which wouldn't really be your fault entirely(since the guide isn't specific enough in explaining what X represents, though it does make mention of it).
3. Remove all graphics cards from the system other than the one you want to flash.
4. Make sure the motherboard BIOS is set to PCIe graphics(as opposed to iGPU or onboard graphics).
5. Make sure the card you want to flash is inserted into a PCIe slot. Doesn't really matter which, but preferably the top most full size/x16 slot.
6. Assuming you have a copy of your stock VBIOS or a copy of one that will at least work, use the command atiflash -f -p 0 <insert VBIOS name here>.rom. Don't include the <>. Just put the name of the VBIOS rom there. As in Polaris.rom...if the file is named Polaris. It can be named anything...so I can't tell you what that name would be.
6b. If for some reason that doesn't work change the 0 to 1 and try again. If it still doesn't work change 1 to 2 and try again, then 2 to 3, then 3 to 4, so on and so forth until it does work. Or until the number is greater than the number of PCIe slots in your system.
6c. If nothing seems to work try a different version of atiflash. Though v2.74 should work with your card(and I can only assume is the version you're using).
7. Again...how do you NOT know this? :wtf:

Thanks for the replies.

Thanks Mr Genius I will give that a shot. I should have figured X meant whatever slot.

I wish I had seen this post before I did anything. https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/amd-ati-flashing-guide.212849/ I have used that guide to try and flash the original .rom back

I originally used the GUI atiwinflash.exe to flash the card.

When I boot up with the card it reverts to Microsoft Basic Display Adapter .

I have used the search function. I now see a few posts for "adapter not found". I have also searched 0FL01 . I am not sure if I am ready to try and connect pins 1 & 8. Not too sure I can. There is a lot of stuff packed in there.

atiflash will not see the cards I haven't touched. Maybe if I understood why that is happening I could solve the problem. Please don't laugh but I have the cards on powered risers. Might that be a problem?

I just don't understand why I can boot up with the card and atiflash can't/won't see it.

I don't know what's going on either. Maybe the powered riser is the reason. But my question now is...if the GUI atiwinflash.exe worked before...why not use it again?

6c. I have found that flashpackage.zip has version 2.6.7

With the new GUI I get an error "can not find descrete ati video card"

With v2.74 I get "can not be run in DOS mode" dooh I think I saw that somewhere. back to search.

Baby steps ...

I have been learning little by little. Mostly here -
https://anorak.tech
https://anorak.tech/t/anoraks-amd-vbios-hex-modification-tutorial/126/4
It seems that this is pretty well written. Fortunately he has built many .rom's that people are using.

I don't know what's going on either. Maybe the powered riser is the reason. But my question now is...if the GUI atiwinflash.exe worked before...why not use it again?

Mr Genius
You are a genius! Using the correct version of atiwinflash (and convincing myself that the card was called Polaris ) I got the original .rom back on and it is now happily hashing away!

Powered riser worked fine.

I owe you a beer. :toast: What is your bitcoin address?

Now how to get the watts/power down?
Try Anoraks Anoraks_MSI RX570 4GB ARMOR Hynix_powersave.rom
What the hell it's only a couple of $$ ;)

Awesome! I'm glad you got it figured. All advice here is free of charge. And sometimes even useful. Thanks for the offer though. Gotta love that internet! What would we do without it?

Hi,
I have similar problem.
I managed to get the cars show again on windows device manager by shorting pin 1 and 8.
But if I try to run atiwiflash in GUI mode doesnt work, getting error saying cant read eprom.
If I try in manual mode using atiwinflash -f -p 0 romname.rom I also get an error
if I do atiflash -i I see it as fail.
Dont know what else to do.
Anyone has more sugestions
Thanks

After the lines are shorted and card boots, disconnect the pins from one another then try

once the card is pin shorted you need to cut the short you made to proceed with the flash
don't forget to issue a unlockrom if needed

not when you are recovering from a bad flash
-if it still doesn't work with atiflash from freedos you will likely need a flash rom programer such as the flashcat usb

I buy bad flash cards $50 USD

Code:
In the cmd window ise this command to flash your cards with a new VBIOS
AtiFlash.exe -f -p 0 path-to-new-vbios.rom

Where -f means force flash, and -p 0 means flashing the card in PCIE slot 0.
You can use -p 1, -p 2, -p 3, etc. to choose the card you want to flash.

if that doesn't work
