Battlefield 1 Running like complete garbage?

Specs are as follows.

i5 3470 @3.2Ghz, 4 cores, 4 threads.
8GB RAM (Was 16, new RAM coming)
RX480 8GB.

I get decent frame rates in Ultra, at 1080, around 100, However the game still runs like shit. I can play smoothly for a few moments then I get frame drops and stuttering. Am I missing something?

Lets assume you have the lateset drivers---win10----SSD????

Crank everything down to a minimum, fine tune methodically untill you hit the sweet spot, dont just assume your pc is capable of ultra because of the graph card, they (EA) dont make these types of games with those specs ( im not saying either your pc is garbage) BF1 is a spec hungry game, especially CPU.

I wouldn't consider "for a few moments" as playing smoothly. Trying turning down the settings. What AA are you using?

While BF1 is demanding, and your CPU's single thread is getting long in the tooth, I doubt it is the cause. You can always try your hand at that Ivy "partial overclock" and take it up to 3.8GHz but it is board dependent and might not work on Q77.

Drivers? Might be important if you upgraded recently, as BF1 is a relatively new game, RX 480 is a new card, and new optimisations may be out.

IMO in recent BF games, SSD has only improved level loading speeds. I did some testing back in BF3 with HT on and off on my i7-3770; HT off did produce a negligible increase in stuttering, but very negligible.

EDIT: actually BF1 appears to be very CPU-bound, and likes fast RAM too. So get some better RAM, or if it is not solved by other means, consider a platform upgrade.

Just how much does the FPS drop, and under what circumstances?

Monitor CPU/GPU load when gaming to see what happens.

Try setting an FPS cap to somewhere between 60 to 80, I have seen cases where that fixed stutter in BF1.

I have seen reports of FPS drops randomly but I have not had it happen yet. It even plays 60 FPS+ on my laptop with settings on ultra 1080p

DX12 enabled. Temps hover at around 65c. TJMAX is 90c. All four cores are used, and at around 80 percent. Will try DX12 disable. The frames stay at above 60 on ultra, however, the game just skips and skips. I tried the 42% scale "fix" but to no avail. Will tinker.

I play it on dx11 as well. at 1080p and ultra settings the game runs awesome. The only problem I have is playing at 4k. Runs like turd even with lower settings. To date it is the only game that I cannot run at 4k. Sucks because 4k it looks so much better than 1920x1080 on me 4k screen.
