The be quiet! Dark Power Pro 12 with 1500 W maximum power output peforms very well overall and is super silent under light and moderate loads. However, can it take the lead from the formidable Corsair AX1600i, which has thus far been the best power supply money can buy?

Quite disappointing performance, especially the 12v ripple and low load efficiency should be way better on such an expensive unit, those should be focus points for a premium PSU like this...

Oof that 12v ripple would kill a lot of Ryzen overclocks which are within that 25mV of stability.

From what I've seen ripple hurts FCLK more than anything... One of my friends could run 1900 on his 3600 until the kettle turned on or the washing machine spun up...

Anyone with certain electricity issues in the house should run on a UPS that covers the full load of the unit to have full power stability. I mean at night the power here sometimes dimms for exactly one second; enough to dump my running PC if it was'nt having a UPS. But running a UPS that could cover a 1500W PSU is a different story as well.

Luckily for you the motherboard has capacitors to filter this low ripple even further. So no this ripple is actually low and shouldn't cause any problem. Lower ripple is only useful for getting a higher score in reviews. That's also the reason behind the many PSU's with cable caps.

And retail versions apparently often have cable caps removed (since it obviously affects cable management, while results difference is not noticeable in real world).

The 12v ripple test results they get pointless its and every new year.

The new norm this is the PSU to use portion of capacitance from the capacitors over the motherboard.
In this scenario the 12v ripple this gets lesser.

If I am wrong then ask an true electronics engineer of how much capacitance this is required as filter for 250 ampere?

I haven't seen a PSU which had caps in the cables in reviewsamples but not in the retail ones. So which ones are you talking about?

$449 for a power supply.

I know this is aimed at the richest 0.1% but honestly, the BOM costs on this unit can't be more than $50. Pure profit excercise when their regular 500-750W Gold rated PSUs are nowhere in stock, globally.

Thanks guys for helping out the regular consumers. /s

That was a joke.

That's very unlikely, just look up some prices, quite some components are already multiple dollars each.

Pure profit excercise when their regular 500-750W Gold rated PSUs are nowhere in stock, globally.
That's certainly not true, no problems here in West-Europe, their main market. It actually never has been sold out, only some shops had less stock a couple of times.
Thanks guys for helping out the regular consumers. /s
This isn't a PSU for the mainstream marked. This PSU can power a workstation with three RTX 3090's and a Threadripper.

Your English is, but someone already told you that.

then ask an true electronics engineer of how much capacitance this is required as filter for 250 ampere?
Your question doesn't make any sense.

Yes it is a 10900K OC with EVGAs 3080 450W would easily be near 50% of this PSUs ability.

First, 600W power draw in stress tests is 40%. Second, if you're buying a 1.5kW PSU to keep it at 50% load then you're doing it wrong ...
Surely, performance of this PSU is somewhat disappointing considering it's price tag but it's no mainstream PSU by any means.

I answered that yesterday already.
We used to build machines like that. Still have eight of them, in fact.

They're obsolete, replaced by cloud compute platforms that are so agressive on pricing to win your business that it's orders of magnitude faster and cheaper than local compute. If you can't do what you need on a single GPU then it's time to buy a compute farm or rent the compute. Maybe that won't work for everyone but the triple 3090 workstation is a pipe-dream of a niche market within a niche market.

Even if you can justify or desire a triple 3090 machine for some reason, you're going to want to split that load over multiple PSUs. There's a few of the streamers struggling to run 3090 SLI on a single PSU and that's not entirely the PSU's fault - it's an issue of domestic wiring in some places not supporting the kind of inrush spikes and power draw of a 1500W unit running off a single wall socket on a circuit.
Less of a problem in the EU with 230V and 13A breakers that can handle over 2KW without causing problems.

It's a very xenophobic and closed-minded thing to chastise someone making the effort to use English when it's not their native tongue. You don't need to feed that bigoted stereotype man, The US is in bad enough shape right now as it is!

I never chastised him nor did I poke fun at English not being his first language, in fact in other posts to him I've stated it's understandable for words to get lost in translation. My comment was more about his self proclaimed great expertise which he obviously found funny since he gave me a laughing emoji thumbs up on it.
