Erm what are the rest of your system specs... You might just end up with little to no upgrade simply because of a slow processor or ram at that point.

Well if you wanted an upgrade I wouldn't settle for anything less than a x1650xt, but honestly I would save the extra few bucks and just get a pci-e card and a new mobo, then your ready for a conroe also...

Thats what I ended up doing after months and months of pondering... AGP just isn't fast enough... I went from a Intel 915 2.8 1024 ddr400 x1300pro agp to same chip 1024 ddr2 675 and a x1300xt pci-e and my performance just exploded. My next step is another gig of ram and a x1950pro.

I don't know a lot about the 9800pro 256mb, but my idea is its far from a slow card, and would probably beat my old 1300pro

9800pro is pretty slow with only a 392/352 core speeds. I dont really want to upgrade the whole computer since ill have to get top of the line everything and that will cost money. Just something to hold me over for another year or two.

Gainward Bliss 7800GS = 7800GT gpu on a 7800gs PCB.
Normal 7800GS = 7800GT gpu with 4 pipelines disabled.
ATI X1950pro = X1950pro, no difference.

Any of those would be a great upgrade.

I would get the ATI.

You will not see much of an improvement if you went for the slower X1600 or 7600 series cards.

The best buy for your system would be 7600GT AGP, ot X1650XT AGP.

On an aside, how much did you pay for that Alienware?

You wouldn't have to buy top of the line everything to upgrade your entire computer. You could build a much better computer then what you have now with like 700$. Assuming you didn't need a bunch of new addons.

x1950 pro

You will see a major improvement over your existing setup.

The x1950 will also last you... you can upgrade to an ASROCK board that will use the x1950 AGP, with DDR1, and still let you install a Core 2 Quad.

x1650xt eats up a 7600gt and looks better doing it.
But it does generally cost $20-$30 more.

Cheers,

considering the current market situation from an cost/effort point of view ill recommend to grap the x1950.
blowing all other agp cards available on an € 200 basis, i do not see an alternative. :respect: in 2007, after laughing on vista rollout and dx10 hype, prices are expected to fall for graphics related hardware.

finally it depends on you. intensive gaming or office environment, its up to you.

Steffen.

The old X850 PRO has resurfaced in AGP circles, and delivers very, very respectable performance for the older interface. The 7600 GS and X1650 PRO cannot really compete with the raw power of the X850 PRO.
Flash the bios to x850xt pe.

i just upgraded from an x800xt platinum edition, which is definitely leaving the x850 pro behind, 520/560 to 540/590 carrying the same gpu as a x850xt pe, the performance increase is considerable, even with one level increased quality settings, theres a gain of around 10fps on average.

the choice is yours.

Actually the X1650XT and the 7600 GT are pretty much equal in peformance.
ATI finally managed to put out a card to rival the 7600 GT directly.

If you can find cheap X800PRO VIVO AGP or X850PRO VIVO AGP (but not Connect3D) take one of them. If it unlocks to 16 pipes you will have doubled performance compared with 9800PRO.

Not according to the reviews on them... The x1650xt was faster by 10-15% pretty much across the board.

But ya if a single x1650xt or 7600gt wont put out what you need, a set of x1650xt's overclocked still wont really keep up with a single x1950, I read a test on that too.
