The best bang for a cheap buck is DFI Blood Iron. It only has one PCI E slot also, but I'm in love with it! Can hit 550 on 6 multi. and I'm working on the 10 multi with my q6700. I wouldn't tell a soul not to buy this board!

I don't know gigabyte has been good to me, you might of just had a bad luck of the draw there. I think the ds3l is solid there. The abit is also good, as is the blood iron. I wouldn't plan on doing cf with a p35, as that second x4 slot will slow ya down. Bang for the buck crossfire and the more expensive x38 wins hands down.

the 790i boards are really expensive and only take ddr3...i don;t want to try and change your views but price to performance the 3870x2 or 3850x2 will destroy 9800GX2 (price to performance wise)

Well......I don't think p35s work on sli, if they do you'll need 3rd party drivers, or maybe drivers in the future would allow, but I wouldn't count on it working well. And again with the x4 even if the drivers were perfect you'd be wasting a lot of money on that second card (especially if its a dual card).

If your doing that, a 680i or 750i is the way to go most likely. If you can live w/o sli, p35.

And yea I agree, a gx2 is just not worth it. x2 would be the way to go if you want dual (most likely ati will get the quad sli thing worked out before nvidia too).

Don't do 650i, their chipsets don't play nice with the higher fsbs, which you will want so you don't choke your vcs. Get at least 680i, but I would go for the 750i.

Well all I know is im avoiding Gigabyte unless its the only option or if its really cheap.

That one.:)

You might need an ultra if your trying to do quad-sli though.

I would go with that if you want to do SLi but I would pick up the Foxconn I linked and go with Crossfire ;)

For non-SLI, it's hard to beat the IP35-e when it's often $65 after rebate and has a six-month track record. Something like the Blood Iron costs literally twice as much.

I don't know if the gigabyte boards are still plagued with the 450fsb bug, so that might be something to consider.
