I've gotten the green light to get a new vcard (thank heavens) & I'm wanting to know what cards are the good ones now? I've had a ati 3850 pci-e 512mb & so want to go back to nvidia..what would you say?

Edit

Hmm, first time I've seen an OP as the second post. LOL. Not sure I can do anything about that.

Best cards in that range for nvidia would be a 9800gt. At that particular price range, I believe the ATI 4850 is a better card. That's coming from a person who usually prefers nvidia.

A 9800gtx is not really around $150, unless you mean after rebates.

A 9800gtx is not really around $150, unless you mean after rebates.

Quick search on Newegg:

Cheapest 9800 GTX that appeared: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143137

Cheapest HD4850 that appeared without rebates: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143137

There are some HD4850 cards with $20 and $30 rebates that go for $140, but no free shipping.

Yeah next cheaper 9800GTX's are a little bit more expensive, but I just had to make that little stupid claim that you can have a 9800GTX for $150 AND cheaper than HD4850. :p

You beat me. See how you are too fast? :p j/k it's what happens when you are doingother things and don't ht F5.

It's NOT MIR thought.

I know you said Nvidia, but have you seen what the 4830 can do, especially overclocked and in crossfire? I have to wonder how low this card will go, with rebates, with the economy the way it is.

Is this a monster card? I'm trying to get the best I can afford from 100 to 150 that would blow my 3850 out of the water

It will blow the 3850 out of the water and it's cheaper than $100 bucks. I could play GRID on a 22" monitor, high settings no problems. Not so with my old 3850. Recertified for $60 bucks. Good deal! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130423 You really aren't going to get a "monster" card for $150. Perhaps try finding a 9800GTX for around that price, but I'll doubt you'll need that kind of power with a 19" monitor.

Well if you want a Nvidia right now *waste of money in that price range* 9800GT, otherwise HD4830/4850 both beat a 9800GT.

I had palit sonic version of 9600GSO 768 it overclocked much better than current Galaxy 9800GT and the fact that i use 19" (not for long I hope :D) I could not see the difference (3dmark not included). So for the money it is good card. But I would wait little longer. 3850 to 9600gso don`t look to me like big upgrade.
