I've got a Corsair (Laing) D4 water pump for one of my loops. I love the performance, but it's louder than I'd like it to be. I'm looking for a new pump that will be quieter without giving up too much performance. I need some suggestions....

whats the rest of your eq?

The D4 is a blue impeller chamber pump.

Was quickly retired out by the D5 vario... then a non vario came out.
The difference between the vario and non vario, besides the price, is the non vario is stuck at setting 4, while the vario has 1-5 available.

MCP650 is the D4 code while MCP655 should be the D5 code.

But paul whats the rest of your eq? like how many fans you running, and how many hard drives.
The MCP355, aka DDC is not that much louder then a hard drive, and you wouldnt hear it over per say 3-4 down volted fans, unless u were pushing close to 0 air though your radiator.

I was told by a member here that my 655 must have been because it was and still is dead silent. I think its luck of the draw paul.

It's an open bench, and the only fans I run is 2 for the EK Coolstream 240 rad. I run 2 HDD's; a SSD and a 1TB SG 'Cuda.

I do have a 655 vario in my other loop. It's very quiet, but I wanted to see what the other options were.

I'm actually surprised at how loud the D4 is. It's louder that my High speed slipstreams.

What about an MCP-350 with an aftermarket top? Mine are pretty quiet.

I just got a new mcp 655 and on setting 4 it's pretty darn quiet. Look for one that is rev. 2, my first rev 1 had a terrible high pitch noise, which they fixed in the second version. The water cavitation inside my d-tec is louder than the hum of the pump. Also, with a such a small loop I'm sure I could turn my pump down even further, I just haven't. At setting 5 the 655 is rated at 318 gallons an hour - it's nice to know I have it if I need it.

Edit: Sorry, I just noticed you already have a 655.

^^ this... mine is silent.
Thirded.

There are six(!) other things in my system that make noise: 3 800rpm S-Flex fans, 1 1200rpm S-Flex fan, a single platter WD3200AAKS, and a Silverstone PSU fan. The MCP-350 with a DDCT-01 top is not audible over the other things.

what about taking volt modding into consideration ? i have my pump running at 5V and its dead silent and still moves enough water to keep my proc at a nice temp. you could even do 7V off the molex plug just make sure you have something taking 5v on the same line so you dont put too much amperage through the line and start a fire or kill something in the process like i did (fire).
